Jr.’s legacy continues to build - Roy Jones vs. Jeff Lacy
by Corey E

Rarely are sports betting fans given the opportunity to watch an athlete as special as Roy Jones Jr. In his prime, “Captain Hook” seldom lost a round, let alone a fight. When Jones announced his presence in the boxing world with a destruction of James “Lights Out” Toney, nobody had seen anything like him before.
He was faster than “Sugar” Ray Leonard, flashier than Muhammad Ali, more elusive than Wilfred Benitez.
Unfortunately, as with every athlete, Roy has hit the point in his career when he isn’t quite what he used to be. Sadly, the boxing betting community has labelled him a “washed up” former champion, and seems to have forgotten what Jones was, and in many ways, still is.
The former four-division world champion is out to silence some of those critics when he takes on Jeff Lacy at Hook City, a card promoted by his own organization, Square Ring Promotions.

After his loss to Joe Calzaghe at Madison Square Garden, Jones took a brief time off before slaughtering Omar Sheika on the first co-branded boxing and MMA show in Florida. As usual, Jones was maligned for not challenging top-flight talent, although Sheika had defeated one of the few men to best Jones, Glen Johnson (who is an underdog on boxing odds against Chad Dawson in November).
This time, it would be tough to criticize the living legend for testing his skills against a younger fighter with only two losses on his record, and a brand name in Lacy. The card is titled “Hook City,” as this is supposedly a test to find out who has the best hook in boxing. However, the underlying storylines are equally as exciting. Can Lacy, an underdog on boxing odds, defeat Jones and revive his career? Can Jones, arguably the greatest super middleweight ever, defeat a former IBF super middleweight champion?
Regardless, judging by both men’s recent performances, the boxing lines are correct in favouring Roy Jones by a -500 margin. After a shoulder injury, Lacy doesn’t have the vicious knockout power that he once had, and he was certainly never a mobile, finesse fighter. Jones however, may have lost a bit of his foot speed, but certainly none of his hand speed. Logically, Jones will lay back and counterpunch him for twelve rounds, as Lacy probably doesn’t have the juice to hurt Roy.
