Chagaev vs. Valuev - Can the Monster fall again?
by Charles Jay

While boxing betting and online sports betting fans may not have been too eager to catch the Chad Dawson vs. Antonio Tarver rematch earlier this month, they most certainly are anticipating the heavyweight championship tilt between Ruslan Chagaev and Nikolai Valuev.
The heavyweight division, unfortunately, has been a load of alphabet soup, mediocre fighters and politics as of late. Chagaev and Valuev have very much been a part of it as well, albeit not necessarily by choice. Chagaev was the WBA champion before suffering an injury, causing the interim title to go up for grabs. Valuev faced John Ruiz in the logical matchup between the No. 1 and No. 2 contenders. Valuev had a fairly easy time with the veteran, and became the current WBA champ, while Chagaev remained the title holder "in recess."
Get it? Us either.
What really matters is that the top two heavyweight fighters in the WBA will finally meet up once again, for the enjoyment of those who bet on boxing at the BetUS sportsbook.
The first contest between these two was a 12-round war between two big men--one considerably larger than the other. However, Chagaev exposed many of the monster's glaring weaknesses, avoiding his slow jab and tagging him repeatedly with straight right hands to the body. The rest of the time, he kept an extreme distance, but remained prepared to dash in with a low attack.
Valuev recently struggled with Evander Holyfield, who many felt won the fight. Holyfield was not quite as quick as Chagaev, and was perhaps not active enough to persue to judges to give him the victory--which made many boxing lines quite upset.
Nonetheless, Valuev has not forgotten about the blemish on his record.
“I have been waiting for two years to make amends. Only a victory over Chagaev can put my mind at rest," said Valuev at a press conference. “This is the fourth time I am actually preparing for a fight with him. Now is the time to end all this confusion. There will only be one WBA heavyweight champion after May 30 – and that will be me.”
The big man is certainly confident, but after an embarrassing effort against Holyfield, should he be? Smart sports betting money will be coming in on Chagaev, at some favorable boxing odds.
The Pick: Chagaev
