Pacquiao vs. Cotto Undercard - Daniel Santos vs. Yuri Foreman

Bookmark and Share by Corey E

Now that Floyd Mayweather Jr. easily dispatched Juan Manuel Marquez to announce his re-entry into boxing’s elite, the next move goes to none other than Manny Pacquiao. And just as one million sets of boxing betting eyes tuned in for Floyd, just as many are likely to do the same for Manny.

The “Pac Man” will take on WBO welterweight chamnpion Miguel Cotto this Saturday on HBO pay-per view. But before fans get to watch what has been a dream match of many boxing purists for years, another title is on the line in the undercard.

Daniel Santos will wager his WBA light middleweight title against Yuri Foreman, in a bout that advocates of pure, scientific boxing will be on the edge of their seats for.

As big of an icon as Pacquiao is in the Philippines, Foreman is also an icon in Israel—becoming the first Israeli fighter to ever compete for a world title. Foreman is studying to become an Orthodox rabbi, but before he can hit the books again, he’ll need to get inside on the southpaw Santos, keep his lead foot on the outside, and negate his two-inch reach handicap.

Fans of all-action fighting will have to wait until the main event to get their fix, as Santos and Foreman take a very cautious, formulaic approach inside the squared circle. Foreman fights with flare and style, however he is not the type to engage in the center of the ring mindlessly. With the BetUS sportsbook offering a bevy of props betting amongst the boxing odds, fans should wager on the premise that the bout will go the distance.

Elsewhere on the undercard, unfortunately, viewers and boxing bettors will have to suffer through Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and his artificially enhanced 40-0 record, take on Troy Rowland. Rowland has been brought in as an opponent, but with his brother in hospital with the H1N1 virus, may have plenty of sentimental fans in his corner. However, despite his fabricated status, the Chavez family name is like royalty amongst Mexican boxing fans, and a strong contingent of them are sure to make their way to the MGM Grand, making this a “home game” of sorts, for JC Jr.

The Chavez Jr.-Rowland bout will likely be the diametric opposite to the Santos-Foreman contest—short and exciting. It's in Chavez Jr.'s blood to stand toe-to-toe with his opponent, and there's no question that the courageous Rowland will be a willing participant in the violent exchanges.

Nonetheless, Rowland is a hand-picked opponent for a reason. Chavez Jr.'s handlers have chosen well up to this point, and it's unlikely that they would put him in any danger on an HBO pay-per-view alongside arguably the sport's biggest stars. Regardless of the boxing odds on fight night, lay it down with Chavez Jr.

If you're feeling lucky, try parlaying Yuri Foreman and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on the moneyline at the BetUS sportsbook!
