Zab 'Super' (+200) vs. 'The Hitter' Clottey (-260)
by BetUS Staff
BetUS Sportsbook customers will have the pleasure of witnessing a very similarly cast bout between Joshua Clottey and Zab 'Super' Judah.
Just as Margarito-Cotto was a battle between a greatly-hyped fighter and one flying under the radar, Clottey-Judah is a match-up pitting a quiet man against one of the most arrogant fighters of this generation.
But the connections between the two marquee bouts don't stop there. Online Carlos Baldomir (who stunned Judah for the welterweight title) before being disqualified.
As a fighter, Clottey, who now resides in the Bronx, closely resembles his former counterpart Margarito, in that they are both pressure fighters who rely on strong technique to wear down their adversaries.
The 'Super' one, on the other hand, is notorious for his punching speed and flair. However, the one thing the two men do have in common is a knack for fighting dirty, and getting disqualified as a result. Obviously, due to his Bravado, the uber-gangsta Judah's tactics have been well-documented, however Clottey has quietly become known for aiming below the belt as well.
If BetUS. com customers could wager on it--I would advise them to except some fireworks this weekend. (See: Judah-Mayweather) In fact, a draw or technical draw at a whopping +1800 might not be a bad idea.
This is crunch-time for the 31-year old Judah, who can either spring himself into big-fight status once again, or take the plunge into washed-up journeyman territory depending on Saturday's outcome. He has made somewhat of a rebound in winning his past two fights--albeit against mediocre fighters--but will need a victory here in order to avoid being coupled with talented "challengers" the likes of James "Quick" Tillis.
The winner of this fight will most likely take on either Margarito or Cotto. For Clottey, a contender on the rise, it is most likely that he would get a rematch with the champion, while the fading Judah would probably be fed to an eager Miguel Cotto. However, as we have seen in the past, whether he deserves it or not, Super Judah often gets fantastic opportunities that he perhaps does not deserve.
Prediction:
At this stage in his career, I'm not convinced that Judah can handle the pressure and the constant punching that Clottey is going to bring to the table. Sure, he showed heart in the Cotto fight, however his cross-town Bronx rival is even more aggressive than the former champion is.
Judah will need to show off his hand and foot speed, and stay out of the corners and off the ropes at all costs. For Clottey, the game plan will be to keep his guard up as he pursues Judah, as the Super has the ability to snap off a knockout blow from virtually all angles.
However, more than anything, I'm not sure that I believe Clottey is patient enough to handle a sly combatant like Judah. He has yet to prove that he can stay the course and stick to a plan without low-blowing an opponent. Not to mention that he's never been in the ring with a puncher the calibre of Judah--although there aren't many out there.
Take your chances on a Judah outright win, and if you're feeling lucky, go for the knockout at +600.
