IPL 2009 Betting - Deccan Charge Towards Finals
by Juris Graney
Deccan Chargers (-200) appear destined for a semi-final berth in this year’s Indian Premier League competition however they must overcome Kolkata Knight Riders (+150) if they are to be assured of a top four finish.
In IPL cricket betting terms, it is a sure thing they will win in the second of today’s double header matches in the IPL.
With the second highest run scorer in the league, Deccan (P11/W6/L5) captain Adam Gilchrist (329) at the helm, nothing can save Kolkata (P11/W1/L9/NR1), who are running last with just three points to their name.
As the cricket lines show, the only possible way Kolkata can win is if Deccan take to the field with just three or four players, the lights at the stadium are turned out when Deccan are batting and they resort to the old backyard cricket days where you can’t be dismissed without scoring a run.
Of course that is just not going to happen.
When the two met in match four of the tournament, it was Deccan’s RP Singh (4/22 off 3.4 overs) and P Ojha (2/14 off four overs) who helped restrain Kolkata to 101 with only Aussie Brad Hodge (31 off 34 balls) making any dent against the bowling attack.
Fidel Edwards’ 0/6 off four overs set a great platform before the soon to become familiar names and deeds of captain Adam Gilchrist (13), Herschelle Gibbs (43no off 26 balls), VVS Laxman (10) and Rohit Sharma (36) completed the routing in 13.1 overs.
Gone however is Gibbs and Laxman but Australian all rounder Andrew Symonds has come into the team however is impact has been less than impressive however his presence on the field and with the bat can be enough to frighten teams into mistakes.
The only criticism that can be levelled at Deccan is their inconsistency and inability, after the first four games at least, to build any momentum (LWLWLLLWWWW) however maybe a win today can fix that and propel them towards an IPL champions title.
