Is it March yet? Heck, Becky! Do you live in a cave? Just this past Saturday, March 1st, the Texas Longhorns. That pretty much closed the door on any chance the Longhorns had of securing a number one seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Kentucky Wildcats. Like the Jayhawks, the Volunteers could be in line for a number one seed.

Of course, the biggest question regarding number one seeds surrounds the biggest rivalry in all of college basketball - - North Carolina.

The two ACC leaders play each other on March 8th and whomever wins should be in line for a number one seed in the NCAA Tournament. Both the Duke Blue Devils and North Carolina Tar Heels are finally healthy. That means that BetUS college basketball bettors are in for a treat this Saturday.

Of course, that isn’t the only game on March 8th, but it is, without doubt, the most interesting. We’ll start with Duke vs. North Carolina in our March 8th preview:

Duke Blue Devils = Without a doubt this is the biggest rivalry in college basketball. Coach K, Coach Roy Williams, the Cameron Crazies, North Carolina and their history - - this is the biggie! What will make this game even bigger is the fact that a potential number one seed in the NCAA Tournament could be up for grabs. North Carolina and Duke showed grit last Saturday by coming back from deficits against tough ACC teams. There won’t be a reason for one of these teams to make a ferocious comeback on March 8th as I have no doubt that this is going to be a very closely contested match-up. The main difference for the Tar Heels in this game is that arguably their best player, Ty Lawson, is finally healthy. It’s true that the Blue Devils dominated the Tar Heels the last time these two teams met. It’s also true that this game is at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Duke’s campus - - probably the hardest place to play in all of college basketball. But to me Lawson might be the difference maker in this game. He didn’t play very well against the BC Eagles last Saturday but the Duke game comes seven days later. Lawson will be up for the Blue Devils. That means that Duke, who should be favored in this game, might be a bad wager. The BetUS line should fall around 3 or 4 points. I’m taking the Tar Heels and the points.

Free Pick: North Carolina Tar Heels

**Other Games on March 8th

Memphis - - Memphis will win this game and secure a number one seed in the NCAA Tournament. Memphis is just the best team in their conference. I’m not sure if they are one of the top four teams in the nation especially after checking out their record against the BetUS spread in their last 10 games - - 3 and 7. Ouch. Even Becky who loves Elvis wouldn’t go for that! Go ahead and pencil Memphis in as one of the number one seeds in your bracket, but forget about it. These guys will lose early in the tournament.

Texas A & M -- If Kansas beats A & M on the road, Kansas will have an argument for the final number one seed. Kansas has been consistent all year and they have played arguably one of the toughest schedules in college basketball. The problem is that I don’t think Kansas will beat Texas A & M and even if they do, I just like Tennessee more for that final number one seed. The BetUS line in this game should be around Kansas – 4 to - 6 points. I like A & M to beat that spread.

UCLA - - The Bruins locked up the number one seed by beating the Arizona Wildcats on the road this past Saturday. They are the class of their conference which makes them the best team in the best conference in college basketball. The Big East has an argument as being the best conference, but the Pac-10 is awfully good. UCLA gets Cal at home for this one. This should be a blow-out victory for the Bruins.

Vandy vs. Alabama - - I want to highlight this game because even though the Commodores have no chance of securing a number 1 or 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament they have to prove that they can win on the road. This will be an excellent game to show us BetUS college basketball bettors what Vandy is really made of.

Syracuse - - Speaking of winning on the road, can the Golden Eagles do it? This is a much bigger game then anybody thinks as a Syracuse win assures them a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Marquette will be fighting for a good seed in the tourney. I’m thinking the ‘Cuse will be favored by around 2.5 or 3 points in this game. At that BetUS line I have to like them. The Golden Eagles are horrible on the road.

UConn - - The Huskies are another one of those teams that BetUS college basketball bettors need to watch. They will be terribly underappreciated in the tournament this year - - I promise you. Watch them squeak out a win against the Cincy Bearcats on March 8th. That’s a good thing. It means that they will end up as a low seed in the tournament with a chance to upset a very good team. Hmmm, maybe someone like the Memphis Tigers in the third round?

Georgetown - - This is a huge game. The Hoyas are the better team but Louisville has been coming on lately. Both Louisville and Georgetown will be fighting for a number two seed in this game. Both teams will get plenty of respect from the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee. So I don’t think it really matters who wins this one. Unless, of course, you’ve got some money on the BetUS line. I’m predicting around 3 or 4 points against Georgetown. Believe it or not, I think the Hoyas will cover a BetUS spread around that many points.

USC - - An important game for both teams. For Stanford, beating USC on the road could get them a number two or number three seed. For USC beating a team like the Stanford Cardinal, ranked in the top 10, assures them a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Most college basketball watchers believe that USC will make the tournament no matter what happens. I’m not so sure. The committee will have to take close to nine teams from the Big East. That doesn’t leave a whole of spots for ten loss teams like USC. As far as the BetUS line is concerned, Stanford should be favored by around 2.5 points. I like Stanford to just dump it down to the twins all day. They should cover a BetUS spread of around 3 points or so.

Until next week, good luck!
