Argentina’s Angel Cabrera, who missed three of his eight cuts this season and whose two 19th-place ties in the US Open leader where he watched Jim Furyk and then Tiger Woods come up one-shot short in their bid to tie him and force a play-off.

Not one of the three will follow-up their exhausting Oakmont performances with an appearance at this weekend’s tour at Connecticut’s TPC River Highland’s Course. Still, in its inaugural season with Travelers Insurance as its main corporate sponsor, the tournament formerly known as the Buick Open has numerous big-name stars in its field.

Last year, J.J. Henry shot a final-round 67 to become the first Connecticut-native to win this tournament in its 55-year history. He is back to defend his title against all-comers, including Vijay Singh (the odds-on favorite at 9:1) and Zack Thomas (20:1), the 3nd and 4th ranked golfers in the FedEx Cup standings. John Rollins (11th) and Mark Calcavecchia (14th) round out the top-15-ranked golfers entered in this weekend’s field.

Phil Mickelson was an original field entrant but he withdrew this weekend to rest his injured wrist.

David Toms finished in a tie for 5th – four-strokes off of Cabrera’s pace – last weekend at the U.S. Open. It was his second top-five finish in as many weeks (3rd at the FedEx Cup, he is, statistically, the 32nd-ranked golfer on Tour. Not as long driver (135th [280.4]), he is still the 9th-leading scorer in the game this year (69.76). Toms has been assigned the second-best odds this weekend (14:1).

Justin Rose is a 16:1 favorite to win this weekend followed by Stewart Cink (18:1) and the duo of Padraig Harrington and Johnson at 20:1.

Another player to keep an eye on is Jerry Kelly (25:1), who finished five-strokes off of the lead last weekend at Oakmont. Kelly missed five of his first seven cuts but, since mid-March, has put together six top-ten finishes in his last nine outings. His 7th-place finish in the U.S. Open matched his finish three weeks before at the Colonial. An even shorter driver than Toms, Kelly has posted a solid average score (69.87 [11th]) and is, statistically, the 23rd-ranked golfer on Tour as well as the 24th-ranked golfer in the FedEx Cup.

Last year’s winner, Henry (40:1), started out this season with a top-ten finish (8th-place) at the Colonial) and a tie for 26th, last weekend, at the U.S. Open. Statistically, the 90th-ranked player on the tour, he is good at reaching greens in regulation (29th [65.6%]) but is 172nd on tour in the number of putts per round (30.08). Still, this tournament is special to him and he is familiar with the host-course.

Sharing Henry’s winning odds (40:1) are: Arron Oberholser, Rod Pampling, Stuart Appleby, Woody Austin and Fredrik Jacobson.
