Golf Betting - Tiger Prowls the Buick Invitational

Bookmark and Share by

Tiger Woods returns to action this week, and it'll be in an event that he has dominated in past years. This week's PGA tournament is the Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, California, with an estimated purse of $5.2 million and first-place prize money of $936,000. And favored, of course, to end up in first place, is Tiger Woods.

Last year's Buick Invitational champion? Woods. The year before that? Woods. And the year before that? Actually, it was John Daly, but Woods also won this tournament in both 2003 and 1999, meaning he has grabbed the title in four of the past eight years. The other winners over that span were Phil Mickelson (twice) and Jose Maria Olazabal.

So how lucrative would betting on Woods be this weekend? Not very. The oddsmakers at BetUS have Woods listed as a huge +140 favorite. Next on the list is Mickelson, who is back at +1000 odds, followed by Vijay Singh at +1200. From there the odds get bigger. Justin Rose is pegged at +3000, while Robert Allenby, Stewart Cink, Lucas Glover, and Steve Stricker are sitting farther back in the pack at +4000 odds right now.

Past-champion Olazabal (2002) is listed at +5000 odds, while Daly is a big longshot at +12500. Charley Hoffman, who won the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic last weekend, has been given +5000 odds to win back-to-back tourneys. Here are the top favorites:
