Golf Matchup Betting: Phoenix Open Tournament

We’re only a day away from the 1st Round of the Waste Management Phoenix Open. The tournament, being held at the TPC Scottsdale in Scottsdale, AZ, marks the return of Phil Mickelson to the PGA Tour after a week hiatus.
That’s one of the reasons to watch and wager the Phoenix Open. The other is to make profits by betting a few tournament matchup wagers in the golf sportsbook.
Phoenix Open: Tournament Matchups Best Bets
Tee-off: 2/25/2010
- Y.E. Yang -135 vs. Paul Goydos +105 - - Yang has finished in the Top 20 in 3 out of the 4 PGA Tournaments he’s played in so far this season. Yang finished 15th in the Northern Trust Open and 17th in the WGC-Accenture in his last two tournaments. That should set him up well for this but he shouldn’t be such a big favorite over Paul Goydos in this matchup. After missing the cut in the Farmers Insurance Open, Goydos finished 5th in the NTO and 5th in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. I have to go with Goydos and the odds in this matchup.
Winning Pick: Paul Goydos
- Steve Marino -125 vs. Brandt Snedeker -105 - - Marino missed the cut last year at Scottsdale when this tournament was sponsored by FBR. Snedeker missed the cut as well but Brandt is ranked 3rd on the Tour in putts per round and hasn’t finished worse than 21st in any of the four tournaments he’s played in to start 2010. Marino has finished 5th and 4th in his last two tournaments. Who gets the nod in this matchup? I’m going with Snedeker because even thought he missed the cut in 2009, he finished tied for 9th in 2008.
Winning Pick: Brandt Snedeker
- Briny Baird -120 vs. Nick O’Hern -110 - - While some of the best in the world were battling it out in the WGC-Accenture Match Play, Briny Baird was finishing 4th in the Mayakoba Classic. Baird also tied for 12th at the Sony Open in Hawaii to start 2010. O’Hern hasn’t finished better than 25th so far this season. Briny should win this matchup.
Winning Pick: Briny Baird
- Ryuji Imada -120 vs. Chad Collins -110 - - Collins didn’t play in last year’s Phoenix Open. He did tie for 4th in the Mayakoba Golf Classic last week, though. Imada missed the cut in last year’s Phoenix Open. Imada missed the cut at the AT&T Pebble Beach this yeare but before that had finished 9th in the Farmers Insurance Open and tied for 15th in the Northern Trust Open. Imada gets the not because of his consistency before the AT&T screw-up while Collins finished 4th in last week’s “B” tournament.
Winning Pick: Ryuji Imada
- Justin Rose -110 vs. Ben Crane -120 - - Crane won the Farmers Insurance Open and finished tied for 9th in the WGC-Accenture last week. He did, however, miss the cut at the Phoenix Open in 2009. Rose hasn’t been as sharp as one might expect so far this season. He finished tied for 12th in the Sony Open in Hawaii, missed the cut at the Bob Hope, and then finished 22nd in the Farmers Insurance Open and 37th in the Northern Trust Open. Rose should have used the past few weeks to work on his game. If he did, then he’s going to be tough in this matchup. I’m going with him.
