Great Odds Found on Tournament Matchup Golf Bets

One 12th place finish and all of a sudden golf bets on the Deutsche Bank Championship this week.
Tiger hasn’t been the one to pick to win in any golf tournament in a long time. Even when it came to tournament matchup betting, Woods had been a pick against. Last week El Tigre was a -105 dog to beat Phil Mickelson who was at -125 in tournament matchup betting.
Man, how times have changed. El Tigre is now not only the favorite to win the Deutsche Bank Championship but also the favorite in all of his tournament matchups to beat the other competitor.

Tournament Matchups
- Phil Mickelson -145 vs. Tiger Woods +115 - - It’s all about value, right? At first, it appears that Phil is one of the better value bets in the tournament matchups at +115 to take down Tiger, but then the stats come into play and, ouch, Lefty just hasn’t been playing well lately. Old Mick missed the cut last week at the Barclays while El Tigre shot good enough in the first and fourth rounds to garner a 12th place finish. I still believe that this could go either way. Tiger is supposed to be the man this weekend. I’ll take a shot that he isn’t and that he still needs to work on his game while Phil will go back to the success that put him on the brink of the #1 World Golf Ranking.
Pick: Phil Mickelson
- Jim Furyk +135 vs. Steve Stricker -165 - - I hate getting all chalky in a FedEx Cup Playoff event but Stricker finished 3rd at last week’s The Barclays and won the 2009 Deutsche Bank Championship. Fury went into The Barclays with high hopes and then promptly got himself disqualified after missing a tee time last Wednesday. I know that Strick is going to show up and play on Sept. 3rd. Fury? Who knows?
Pick: Steve Stricker
- Paul Casey -145 vs. Padraig Harrington +115 - - Casey no doubt has been much better than Paddy in 2010 with a sterling 3rd place finish at the British Open and a 12th at both the PGA Championship and last week’s The Barclays. But I truly believe that Paddy might turn it around this week. He finished 4th at TPC Boston in 2009 and Paddy did finish 9th at the WGC-Bridgestone before missing the cut at the PGA and finishing 47th at The Barclays. Backing Padraig in this matchup is one of the golf bets to make this week.
Pick: Padraig Harrington
- Rory McIlroy +115 vs. Steve Stricker -145 - - Hey, I love Strick, just read above about what I said in his matchup with Fury, but Rory McIlroy is a straight up playa. You just never know if he’s going to turn it on or not. Because of his awesome ability, I have to side with the man who finished 3rd at both the British Open and PGA Championship even though the odds say that he gets drubbed by Stricker in this.
Pick: Rory McIlroy
- Dustin Johnson -110 vs. Tiger Woods -120 - - I’m betting against Woods for one more week. That means taking DJ, who showed that his mental game is just fine after that bit of buffoonery that cost him the PGA Championship by finishing 9th at The Barclays last week, to beat El Tigre in this matchup. Johnson has been on fire lately. Woods, for all of the talk about the 12th place finish, has not.
Pick: Dustin Johnson
- Rory McIlroy -110 vs. Tiger Woods -120 - - Okay, so Rory is +1500 to win the Deutsche Bank Championship straight up while El Tigre is +500 but only -110 in a matchup against Woods while Woods is -120? What’s wrong with this picture? Nothing. It just means that the odds makers, and probably some sports gamblers, took a hard look at the stats and realized that Rory’s got a good shot to beat El Tigre. The odds are where they should be in this matchup.
Pick: Rory McIlroy
