British Open Best Bet - Odds on Finishing in the Top Ten

Golfers are just about set to tee it off in the 2009 British Open and the BetUS online sportsbook is there to offer wagering on a number of different categories.
Most golfers on the tour understand that simply getting into the top ten at a Major is downright terrific. Making profits off of those golfers just getting into the Top Ten isn’t a bad deal either.
Let’s take a look at some of the golfers with a chance to finish in the Top Ten in the 2009 British Open.
- Tiger Woods -500 - - The odds on Tiger to finish in the Top Ten are ridiculously low, but Tiger has 8 Top 10 finishes in 9 tournaments on the PGA Tour this year and won the British Open in 2005 and 2006. His lone non Top Ten finish was in his first tournament back from the knee injury. This bet is a risk, but it’s also close to a sure thing.
- Padraig Harrington +225 - - Taking Harrington at these odds might be a tougher thing to do than betting on Tiger at -500. Paddy doesn’t have a Top Ten finish to his credit on the Tour this year and he’s missed the cut in the last 5 tournaments where he had a chance to earn world ranking points. He needs to turn it around big time. He could in a tournament he has won two years in a row.
- Steve Stricker +300 - - The John Deere victory was terrific. It was also his 7th Top Ten finish out of 13 tournaments this year. Stricker hasn’t missed a cut all year and nobody is playing as well as he is right now. He’s a nice bet at 3 to 1 to get into the Top Ten in the British Open.
- Ian Poulter +250 - - 4 Top Ten finishes out of 11 tournaments on the PGA Tour this year might not look that great, but Poulter is ranked highly in a couple of key categories and he finished second to Harrington in this event in 2008. He could surprise in this.
- Sergio Garcia +180 - - Garcia’s 10th place finish at Bethpage in the U.S. Open was terrific. Add that with the fact that he has finished in the Top 5 in three out of the last four British Opens and bettors have a low-priced favorite that they might just have to bet.
- Rory McIlroy +180 - - McIlroy is getting better and better with his not only his distance off of the tee, he averaged over 300 yards off of the tee in the U.S. Open, but his short game as well. He’s improved in each of his 3 Major starts and figures to improve again, but the odds are somewhat low on the brilliant youngster. We’ll see.
Best Longshot
Lucas Glover +900 - - Only 4 Top Tens out of 18 events this year might lead some gamblers to write off the U.S. Open champions’ chances in this, but I’m not going to. Yes, he blew it in the John Deere Classic by not making the cut, but he still shot under par with a -3 and it was his first somewhat disappointing performance in a month. He won the U.S. Open, finished 11th at the Traveler’s Championship, and 5th at the AT&T National. He has a shot to get into the Top Ten at Turnberry this week.
