Northern Trust Open Best Bets

After a Monday finals round where Dustin Johnson beat Mike Weir by four strokes to win the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the PGA Tour turns their attention to the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, CA for the Northern Trust Open.

The purse for the Northern Trust is $6,300,000.  golfers will make it to the Top Four.

It looks like an easier bet than finding the winner, but picking the best wagers should still be determined by price.

Let’s analyze Top Four betting in the Northern Trust Open.

Golf:  Northern Trust Top Four

  1. Mike Weir +300 - - It’s a toss up in my eyes between Weir and Phil Mickelson as the best bet on the board.  Weir was very close to winning at Pebble Beach.  He’s been hitting the ball very well this season by making 2 out 3 cuts and finishing in the top ten in both of those tournaments.  Weir’s one of the underrated golfers on the tour.  He deserves serious consideration.
  1. Phil Mickelson +300 - - The real Lefty stood up last season in the NTO and could do the same this season.  He hasn’t really taken as much advantage of the fact that Tiger is on the bench as many golfing fans thought he would.  Still, at +300 to finish in the Top Four, Mickelson is a good bet.
  1. Vijay Singh +400 - - I just have that feeling that Vijay is going to strike the ball with alarming force this weekend at the Riviera Country Club.  Singh was on fire towards the end of last year winning the FedEx Cup.  It would be nice to see him heat up early this season.
  1. Kenny Perry +500 - - Perry is one of my favorite golfers on the Tour because he’s ultra consistent.  I believe he has a serious shot to win the NTO which means he has a serious shot to finish in the Top Four.
  1. Jim Furyk +400 - - Furyk had a terrible Pebble Beach tournament which is unlike him.  Furyk is always hovering around the Top Ten.  I see him bouncing back in this.
  1. Zach Johnson +500 - - Johnson, like Perry, is a consistent enough golfer to garner respect every time he hits the links.  He could really put on a show out there at the NTO and the odds are good enough for gamblers to think about it.

Best Long Shots

  • D.J. Trahan +900 - - At +900 Trahan might not be a huge long shot in this to make it to the Top Four but he played very well at Pebble Beach and could ride that wave to a nice finish in the NTO.
  • Justin Leonard +1000 - - Leonard is on sometimes and off at other times, but the odds say that he has to be considered.  When he’s on, there’s nobody better except Tiger Woods.
  • Stuart Appleby +1600 - - Appleby won’t get a lot of attention in the NTO which is why he is such a great long shot bet.  When gamblers forget about Appleby, Appleby makes them pay…sometimes.
