The odds in the golf sportsbook make Jim Furyk the best bet to be the Top American at this week’s Chevron World Challenge.
The favorite in almost every betting category for the Chevron World Challenge is, of course, Tiger Woods, but the truth is that El Tigre faces an uphill battle to win the CWC this week. Yes, Tiger’s game is coming around but the field is awfully tough and some of the best American golfers on the PGA Tour have entered to play.
So, I’m going to shun El Tigre again and instead put my faith in Jim Furyk.
Golf Odds : Chevron World Challenge

Top American
Best Bet A: Jim Furyk +400
He won the FedEx Cup and, with a victory or Top 5 finish at the Chevron World Challenge, will probably sew up the 2010 PGA Tour Player of the Year Award. Fury was down right mesmerizing at the Tour Champions earlier this year. Oh, yes, he also won the 2009 Chevron World Challenge when shooting a 13-under par. He’s the pick at terrific odds in the golf sportsbook to be the Top Yankee this week.
Best Bet B: Dustin Johnson +800
Getting +800 golf betting odds on Dustin Johnson to just be the Top American is close to stealing. DJ won the AT&T Pebbble Beach National Pro-Am earlier this year and then the BMW Championship in September. He finished 5th at the PGA Championship and 8th at the U.S. Open. The kid has obviously got it together. I believe he’s offering great value at those odds.
Worst Golf Bet: Tiger Woods +175
The odds in the golf sportsbook do not justify a bet on El Tigre to be the Top American at the Chevron World Challenge betting this week. Tiger is getting his swing back, no doubt, but even at his best now, it’s going to be tough to beat guys like Furyk, Dustin Johnson, Steve Stricker and Zach Johnson.
Best Underdog Bet: Anthony Kim +1500
AK’s game may be coming around quicker than anybody believed that it would. After missing 4 cuts in a row, Anthony finished 48th at the BMW Championship. He took almost a month off before teeing off at the WGC-HSBC Champions where he finished 25th. That’s not bad. The WGC-HSBC Champions field was loaded. AK’s got a shot at terrific odds to just be the Best American this week.
Others To Consider
Steve Stricker +800 - - Strick hasn’t had the 2010 that he was expected to have but he’s still one of the top golfers in the world. He could surprise at nice odds in the golf sportsbook in this betting category.
Stewart Cink +1300 - - The odds are great on last year’s British Open winner and a 5th place finisher at the 2009 Chevron World Challenge.
Zach Johnson +1000 - - ZJ finished 5th at the 2009 Chevron World Challenge, tied with Cink, and has had moments of greatness this year like when he shot back-to-back 64’s at the Crowne Plaza Invitational in May.
