PGA Championship Betting - Tournament Matchup Picks

The BetUS online sportsbook fans should be gearing up to do some golf wagering!
Because this is a major, the sportsbook will be offering wagers in a number of different categories. Among the categories is betting on individual matchups. By betting one golfer to beat another, gamblers can make some nice profits without the risk.
Let’s take a look at some of the more interesting matchups in this week’s USPGA Championship.
- Phil Mickelson +325 vs. Tiger Woods -450 - - Tiger is a huge favorite to beat Lefty but Lefty has played much better than Tiger in two out of the three other majors this year. In the U.S. Open, Lefty finished ahead of El Tigre. In the Masters, Lefty finished ahead of El Tigre. Phil didn’t tee off in the British Open, but that’s okay because Tiger didn’t even make the cut in that major. Yes, Woods is on fire right now, but the odds on Mickelson are just too good to pass up. Pick: Phil Mickelson
- Lee Westwood -125 vs. Padraig Harrington -105 - - Westwood is the favorite in this matchup because the odds makers must believe that Paddy’s meltdown on the 16th at the WGC-Bridgestone last Sunday will carry over to this week. I don’t believe so. Harrington is tough mentally and should be right back in the Top 10 this Sunday. Then again, so should Westwood. So, in a pinch like this, where both golfers look good, I like to go with the one with the better odds. That’s Harrington. Pick: Padraig Harrington
- Anthony Kim -135 vs. Rory McIlroy +105 - - This is a matchup between the two supposedly up and comers on the PGA Tour. Kim can hit the ball a mile but so can McIlroy. Both guys figure to excel at Hazeltine until they get to the greens. Who’s better putting? I have to go with the Irishman McIlroy who I believe has a tad more talent than Anthony Kim. The odds are better on Rory as well. Pick: Rory McIlroy
- Stewart Cink -120 vs. Kenny Perry -110 - - Both guys were terrific at the WGC-Bridgestone last week. Cink, of course, won the British Open and is going for his second straight major victory. Perry blew the lead in the Masters earlier this year. Both guys are hitting the ball well and both guys have a shot at winning this tournament. That means I have to go with Perry who’s offering better odds than Cink. Pick: Kenny Perry
- Padraig Harrington +280 vs. Tiger Woods -350 - - Paddy proved that he can play with Tiger, but the pressure got to him in the WGC-Bridgestone on Sunday. How else to explain the ridiculous meltdown on the 16th? Harrington could bounce back and be a factor but if it ends up Tiger vs. Paddy on Sunday this week, then there’s not much to do except watch El Tigre beat Paddy like a drum. I have to take Woods in this matchup. Pick: Tiger Woods
- Lee Westwood -115 vs. Steve Stricker -115 - - This is a tough matchup with both Stricker and Westwood at the top of their games. Stricker has been the more consistent in 2009 but Westwood is a tough golfer. Sometimes a gambler has to go with gut and my gut tells me that Stricker wins this because he knows the course slightly better than Westwood does. Pick: Lee Westwood
- Sergio Garcia -110 vs. Jim Furyk -120 - - Garcia has actually played well in majors this year and was good in 2008, but Furyk is having a decent 2009 while Sergio has had flashes of goodness. I use the word goodness because neither guy is really playing great right now. Furyk is the favorite, but he shouldn’t be. That means I have to bet on Garcia. Pick: Sergio Garcia
- Geoff Ogilvy -115 vs. Stewart Cink -115 - - Ogilvy was as hot as any golfer on the PGA Tour before May, but Cink has been the hot guy lately with the British Open victory and a Top 10 finish in the WGC-Bridgestone last week. Cink all the way in this matchup. Pick: Stewart Cink
- Prayad Marksaeng -110 vs. Thongchai Jaidee -120 - - The second and third greatest golfers of Thai descent in the world, the first being Tiger Woods, lock horns in this matchup with Marksaeng being the slight underdog to Jaidee. Either guy could probably one up the other but I have to go with the guy playing well right now. That would be Marksaeng who was at the top of the leader board of the WGC-Bridgestone on both Thursday and Friday before tailing off on Saturday. Pick: Prayad Marksaeng
- Angel Cabrera -135 vs. Lucas Glover +105 - - This is an interesting matchup between the 2009 Masters winner and the 2009 U.S. Open winner. Cabrera looked terrific last week at the WGC-Bridgestone and even though Glover bounced back from a couple of subpar performances to do well in that tournament, once Cabrera gets going, he’s tough to beat. Pick: Angel Cabrera
