PGA Props Betting - Matchups Highlight Head-To-Head Betting At Honda Classic

Those who like PGA props betting will love the action on tournament matchups this week, as among others, Lee Westwood "takes on" Luke Donald, while Ernie Els "clashes with" Ian Poulter in the Honda Classic. It's always exciting when the world's best player are gathered in one place at one time, and it all gets underway on Thursday and runs through Sunday at the Champion course at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and you can see the weekend action on NBC. The world's second-ranked player, Lee Westwood, is the +350 favorite to win this tournament, and he is also a -125 favorite in PGA props betting to win a tournament matchup against Luke Donald, who is right below him in the world rankings. You can catch weekend action in this tournament on NBC.

Yes, I know that if this was match play, instead of a betting matchup, Donald might rate the easy edge, on the basis of the fact that he is fresh off his winning effort at the Accenture Match Play tournament. Of course, it isn't, but even though Donald missed the cut in his only other stateside appearance this year, not to mention his only effort in stroke play, I still would take the price with him, since I'm not sure that Westwood was all that worthy a #1 player to begin with (how can you be #1 without  major anyway?). if Westwood has anything going for him in this PGA props betting play, it's that he was over par in only eight holes in four rounds of last year's Honda. Luke did not play here last year, but maybe he trumps that with his runner-up finish in 2008 and his first-place paycheck in 2006, which happened despite a first round of 72.

JAY'S PLAY:  DONALD (-105) **

Sometimes you see oddities. In the overall odds to win this tournament, both of these players are priced at +3000, yet Els lays a price to Poulter in this head-to-head. Hmmm. What needs to be respected is that Els has a win at PGA National in the 2008 Honda Classic. Poulter had a tie for sixth at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, and lost in the first round of last week's match play (which he had won last year). So even though Els has played just one stroke play event in the last six weeks, and normally that would be a factor in PGA props betting here, Poulter has not been any more active. In fact, he's been less active. He's also only played the Honda Classic once on this course, and could manage no better than a tie for 46th place, failing to break 70. Okay, we'll move with the favorite.

Taylor has had a difficult time breaking the top 100 in the Official World Golf Rankings, but he has made all four cuts and finished 26th or better in three of those tournaments. His best effort last year was a playoff loss in the Houston Open. His performances in the Honda Classic have been mediocre at best, with a tie for 49th in 2008 being one of the highlights. Wagner has missed two of three cuts, but he made it count in Mexico, as he shot 69-66-65-67 and won in a playoff, then stated that he had the confidence to go out and win every week. Does he have any momentum that will mean something in PGA props betting? Well, maybe more than Taylor, although the 30-year-old has about the same history as Taylor at this event, with a best finish of 40th last year. But when you think about it, he has had three top tens in the last five events where he's made the cut.

JAY'S PLAY:  WAGNER (+110) ***
