Top European Rookie

Best Bet: Ross Fisher +500

Sometimes, a golf handicapper has to simply back the guy going off at the best odds with the best chance of scoring profits. In this case, the golfer going off at the best odds with the best chance of scoring profits in the Top European Rookie golf betting category is Ross Fisher.

The other 5 betting options in this category are very good golfers. Martin Kaymer, for instance, won the PGA Championship, but Kaymer is going off at half the odds of Fisher, +250 to Fisher’s +500, making Fisher the better bet.

Besides winning the Irish Open earlier this year, Fisher won the Volvo Match Play Championship in 2009 and finished 5th at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Tournament in 2009. He knows the Ryder Cup match play format well and won’t buckle under the pressure. He’s the pick in this category.

Other European Rookies

Rory McIlroy +200 - - He won 4 out of his 5 matches at the 2009 Vivendi Trophy and that’s a positive but the odds are awfully low on him to be the top dog in this golf betting category.

Martin Kaymer +250 - - The 2010 PGA Champ hasn’t proven to be a strong match play golfer tied 17th place finishes at the WGC-Accenture in both 2009 and 2010.

Edoardo Molinari +400 - - His 33rd at the WGC-Accenture earlier this year definitely makes him an underlay at those odds.

Francesco Molinari +400 - - His 3 and 2 Vivendi Trophy record out of 5 matches means that he might have a shot in this golf betting category.

Peter Hanson +1000 - - Peter finished 9th at the 2009 WGC-Accenture but has a 4 victory, 7 loss and 3 halved Vivendi Trophy record. Still, at those double-digit odds, he’s wroth a look to be the best Euro rookie.

Top American Rookie

Best Bet: Dustin Johnson +200

I hate to go chalky, but DJ is “Mr. Cool” on the PGA Tour for a reason. His mistake at the PGA Championship in August might have ended some players’ careers but DJ picked himself up a week later finishing 9th at The Barclays and then winning the BMW Championship two weeks after The Barclays.

The man just goes out there and plays his game and the Celtic Manor Resort course should definitely flatter his game.

Other American Rookies

Matt Kuchar +200 - - Kuchar slowed down some towards the end of the FedEx Cup Playoffs, but he’s still a good golf betting wager in this category.

Rickie Fowler +300 - - He’s 21-years-old and hasn’t won on the PGA Tour yet. I’m not sold on him although it’s obvious that the golf odds makers are after making him the second choice in the sportsbook.

Bubba Watson +400 - - Watson’s short game might really help him at the 2010 Ryder Cup. The odds, though… I’m just not happy with them being so low on Bubba.

Jeff Overton +500 - - Golf betting wise, taking a shot on the biggest underdog on the board makes sense in this wagering category. None of these guys have Ryder Cup experience meaning that Overton can’t just be thrown out of the mix altogether.
