Sergio says Gar-seeya to the title

Sergio Garcia had one of golf's more memorable collapses on Sunday at the Wachovia Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina. Garcia shot a 72 in the final round and ultimately watched Vijay Singh take home yet another golf title. Meanwhile, the once promising career of Garcia's reads more like a series of near misses, coupled with disappointment. The Spanish golfer held a whopping six-stroke lead heading into Sunday and watched helplessly as Jim Furyk and Singh both caught up to him.

Once considered a golf prodigy to possibly rival Tiger Woods, Garcia has fallen off the contender map. He rarely stays on the leaderboard heading into the final day and pundits have all but stopped talking about him.

Meanwhile, the focus has moved on to up and coming amateurs, to the personal lives of the top golfers and to who the next big thing may be. Garcia's name just isn't mentioned alongside the best anymore and for good reason. Sunday's performance by Sergio is another example of how too much was expected of him and how limited his talent really is.

When he burst onto the pro scene, Garcia was a media darling. Perhaps the attention and endorsements with big businesses like Adidas inflated his ego and sense of worth. Clearly, he has to re-adjust his game and work on finishing certain elements. "They say you learn more from your losses than your wins and I've got a lot from this week to learn," Garcia said after the heartbreaking loss. No argument here.
