The Player’s Championship from TPC Sawgrass - First Round Props

We’re only a day away from the The Player’s Championship from TPC Sawgrass and BetUS fans are eager to see if Tiger Woods, who has been a disappointment the past few years at Sawgrass, can turn things around and take down his second tournament of 2009.
Standing in his way will be a number of terrific golfers including last year’s TPC winner, Sergio Garcia.
Of course, betting the winner of the TPC isn’t the only wager that gamblers can make. The sportsbook is also offering wagering on the first round winner of this important event.
Let’s take a look at the top wagering interests for this week’s TPC to finish ahead in the first round.
Golf: TPC First Round
- Phil Mickelson +1500 - - Lefty’s a terrific bet to lead after the first round because no doubt he’s going to want to get a head start on Tiger. Woods most likely will wait until Saturday or Sunday to make his move while Mickelson will try and get the jump on his rival. I see Phil playing well yet again at Sawgrass and at odds of 15 to 1 is a pretty good bet to be winning after 18 holes on Thursday.
- Sergio Garcia +3500 - - Sergio isn’t known for fast starts but he’s finally on a course that he has had tremendous success on after winning last year and finishing second in 2007. The odds are excellent that Sergio gets it together enough to be a force in the first round.
- Tiger Woods +700 - - El Tigre was leading after one round in the Quail Hollow last week, but this is different. It’s going to be tougher. Because of his history at Sawgrass, two things can happen here. Either Tiger is so on fire early, because he will want to get a head start, he jumps to an early lead, or he takes his time and just sees what unfolds in front of him.
- Sean O’Hair +2500 - - O’Hair won the Quail Hollow by biding his time and making his move on Sunday. The TPC might require him to just go for it from the outset as the competition is much stiffer in this tournament and the stakes are higher. He’s playing well enough to garner serious consideration for the first round lead.
- Geoff Ogilvy +2800 - - Ogilvy has been somewhat disappointing in the past two tournaments he’s played in but Sawgrass is prefect for his control type style and short game. He’ll need it as he hasn’t had great success in the TPC which is strange. Perhaps, it’s a mental thing with Ogilvy. This will be either a bounce back tournament, in which case a first round lead isn’t out of the question, or another disappointment for Ogilvy.
- Kenny Perry +3000 - - I believe that Perry finally gets over the Masters’ choke and starts hitting the ball with the same force he was hitting it earlier this year. Then again, I believed that the past few weeks as well.
Best Long Shot
Brian Gay +6500 - - He won the Verizon Heritage two weeks ago and has a game suited for the TPC. At the odds, he’s the best long shot bet on the board to lead after the first round. Watch Gay take it to his more heralded competitors from the outset and grab the lead in the TPC after 18 holes.
