March Madness Betting Insider - Midwest Bracket Preview

The Kansas Jayhawks may be a near lock to win the Midwest Bracket of the 2010 NCAA Basketball Championship Tournament, but several other ballclubs look like they have at least a reasonable chance of stopping the powerful Jayhawks.

This Midwest bracket breakdown will give college basketball betting enthusiasts the insight they need to make a plethora of bankroll-boosting wagers throughout the duration of the tournament.

With that said, let me get started.

1 Kansas (32-2 SU, 14-16-1 ATS, 12-18 O/U)
16 Lehigh (22-10 SU, 3-0 ATS, 1-2 O/U)

2 Ohio State (27-7 SU, 17-17 ATS, 16-16 O/U)
15 Cal Santa Barbara (20-9 SU, 15-11 ATS, 11-14 O/U)

3 Georgetown (23-10 SU, 17-12 ATS, 14-15 O/U)
14 Ohio (21-14 SU, 18-12 ATS, 14-15 O/U)

4 Maryland (23-8 SU, 17-10 ATS, 16-8-1 O/U)
13 Houston (19-15 SU, 15-16 ATS, 11-16-1 O/U)

Analysis: The top three seeds in this bracket are locks to win – and the fourth-seeded Maryland is one of the scariest teams in the entire tournament in my estimation. Unfortunately, the Terrapins are going up against a red-hot Houston team that has one of the game’s best coaches in Tom Penders. The Cougars have recorded a near-perfect 5-1 SU mark in neutral site games while Maryland has gone a disappointing 1-4 SU in neutral court matchups. Simply put, this first round matchup has the potential to turn into an ‘instant classic’

Of the top four seeds, college basketball bettors need to keep in mind that only Georgetown and Maryland have recorded winning ATS records this season.

5 Michigan State (24-8 SU, 12-19 ATS, 14-16 O/U)
12 New Mexico State (22-11 SU, 15-10-2 ATS, 12-12-1 O/U)

6 Tennessee (25-8 SU, 13-16-1 ATS, 7-18-1 O/U)
11 San Diego State (25-8 SU, 17-13 ATS, 15-12-1 O/U)

7 Oklahoma State (22-10 SU, 15-10-1 ATS, 11-16 O/U)
10 Georgia Tech (22-12 SU, 16-11-1 ATS, 11-16 O/U)

8 UNLV (25-8 SU, 19-12 ATS, 15-15 O/U)
9 Northern Iowa (28-4 SU, 20-11 ATS, 7-21 O/U)

Analysis: I think two matchups here have the potential to be upsets with Oklahoma State and Northern Iowa having very real possibilities of beating their respective foes.

Tennessee and Michigan State look like sure winners in their respective matchups, but college basketball gamblers should know that each team has recorded pitiful, bankroll-breaking ATS records this season.

Northern Iowa has gone 5-1 SU in its six neutral site games this season while UNLV has recorded a respectable 2-2 SU mark in their four neutral court matchups.
