Their number 3 seed earns them a matchup versus the Southland Conference tournament winners, Sam Houston State. The Baylor Bears RPI rating this year was ninth best in the nation as they played 12 top 50 teams this season, their record in those games were 8-5. They had big wins over Texas A&M, Xavier and two wins over the Texas Longhorns which caught the eye of the NCAA selection committee.

They boast one of the most explosive backcourts in college basketball, led by LaceDarius Dunn who is averaging close to 20 points a game and has been lights out from long distance, shooting 42% on three pointers this season. Dunn’s running mate is Tweety Carter, Carter is scoring close to 16 points a game and dishing 6 assists per, he’s shooting close to 40% on his 3’s. Carter and Dunn will light you up from long range and this tournament should be their coming out party.

The Sam Houston State Bearkats are solid offensively but they don’t have the firepower to match the Bears. They need to clamp down on perimeter defense and if they try to get up and down the court with the Bears they will lose and lose badly. The Bearkats protect the ball well, dishing 200 more assists than they committed turnovers.

Against the spread, Baylor is 16-9 overall and have a 6-0 ATS streak against non-conference opponents and they are 4-0 ATS as a favorite. If you are betting the college basketball total, the Bears, with their hot shot guard tandem have gone over the total in their past four games.
