March Madness Odds: Who are the #1 seeds?
by Dave D

When it comes to March Madness betting, a No. 1 seeds is picked to win in more than 70% of brackets. Here’s a recap of the four No. 1 seeds in the 2010 NCAA Tournament:
Number One Seeds Names as Madness Set To Begin
The bracket for the upcoming NCAA national title tournament has been completed, and it features the four teams observers predicted would be named the number one seeds. Kansas, Kentucky, Duke, and Syracuse were all named as top seeds for March Madness, but that doesn’t mean each of them will not have to justify their designation on the road to the Final Four.
Kansas Jayhawks
The Jayhawks were the overwhelming selection as the top seed in the March Madness tournament, a just appointment after a 32-2 season over which they went 15-1 during conference play in the Big 12, their only loss coming at Oklahoma State.
Kansas has played perhaps the most complete basketball of any of the top seeds, and is the favourite to win the national title, but it will not be easy. The selection committee has given the Jayhawks the most difficult road to the Final Four of all the top seeds, a Midwest bracket which also features number six ranked and Big Ten champions Ohio State, Big East finalist Georgetown, and defending March Madness finalist Michigan State.
Kansas will make its 21st consecutive appearance in the tournament, which will be the longest current streak, but it will not be an easy road to the title game.
Kentucky Wildcats
The number two ranked Wildcats capped conference tournament play on a high note with a 75-74 win over Michigan State. Kentucky went 14-2 in the regular season conference play, 32-2 overall, and enter March Madness winners of five straight.
Boasting arguably the best one-two pair in college basketball, with guard John Wall and forward DeMarcus Cousins. Although the hype has quieted in recent weeks, Wall was talked about as the potential number one pick in this year’s, NBA draft for much of the first months of the college season.
Wall has averaged 16.9 points, 6.4 assists, and 4.2 rebounds for Kentucky and is complimented by three teammates that each average over ten points per game as well.
Duke Blue Devils
Despite a below average performance from star Jon Scheyer, the Blue Devils topped Georgia Tech 65-61 for their second straight and record 18th ever ACC tournament title. Kyle Singler stepped up to lead the team with 20 points, proving that not only Scheyer can carry the load for Duke when the team enters national title tournament play. The Blue Devils also became the fifth straight number one seed to win the ACC tourney.
Duke finished the season with a 29-5 overall record, going 13-3 in conference play, and have won 12 of its last 13 games including four straight heading in to March Madness play.
Syracuse Orange
An early exit in the Big East title tournament, 91-84 to Georgetown in addition to an injury to center Arinze Onuaku pushed the Orange back as the fourth of the top seeds entering NCAA title tournament play. Syracuse finished with a 28-4 record, 15-3 in conference play, although it will limp in to March Madness losers of consecutive games.
Wes Johnson leads all scorers with 16 points and 8.4 rebounds per game, but the Orange are more than just a one man show. Syracuse has five scorers that have averaged at least ten points per game, although it will lose Onuaku. Syracuse could have the easiest road to the final four of all the top seeds, but will need to be better than they were in the upset loss to the Hoyas for any shot at a title run.
