First the MLB and now the NFL??

I guess it shouldn’t really come as that much of a surprise.

It turns out that the very same U.S. Congressional committee that conducted the now infamous hearings investigating steroid use in major league baseball (an event Mark McGwire won’t soon forget) has recently asked NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue for information about how it regulates the performance-enhancing substances. Uh-oh!

The committee asked the NFL to provide details on the testing procedures and how they were negotiated between the league and the union. It also requested summaries of all test results during the time the testing has taken place, although not the names of individual players. The committee set Friday, April 8 as the deadline for the league to provide the committee with the information.

The Government Reform Committee also said on Thursday it will ask for similar data from the NBA, NHL, U.S. Track and Field, Major League Soccer, and U.S. college sports governors the NCAA! It’s going to hit the fan.

Could this be the beginning of the end for sports as we know it? Will there be a noticeable decline in point scoring? Stadium/arena attendance? Overall interest?
