AL East rivals go head-to-head this week

The American League East division moves back into baseball’s spotlight this week, as the New York Yankees host the Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles host the Toronto Blue Jays in four-game series that start on Monday and conclude on Thursday.

Boston currently holds a half-game advantage over New York in the AL East standings. Toronto is 2.5 games behind the BoSox, while Baltimore is 8.5 games back of the pace. The Red Sox and Yankees have each won seven of their past 10 games, with Boston taking two from Detroit on the weekend and New York managing to top Baltimore twice. The Blue Jays have won six of their last 10, while the O’s have split their last 10 games.

The Red Sox and Yankees have met on the field seven times this season, with Boston picking up wins in four of those games. In their most recent set, however, the Yankees took two of the three games at Fenway Park. This time the series will be taking place in the Bronx, where the Red Sox are 2-1 this season and have outscored New York 22-13.
