MLB BETTING – Top AL $$$ Pitchers through 8/9
August baseball betting is here, and now’s the best time to get into the game with BetUS Sportsbook! Before you get ready to place your next sports bet on an MLB game, check to see whether the pitcher you’re betting on appears on this list of the top money arms in the AL!
1) Matt Palmer, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (10-2, +$1,164) It’s back to the bullpen once again for Palmer. For a team that has had all sorts of problems with its starting rotation, one would figure that the Halos would be using their 9-1 starter. Still, allowing two runs in five innings against Minnesota on July 25th wasn’t good enough to keep him in the rotation, and since then, he has just made four relief appearances.
2) Jered Weaver, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (17-6, +$988) Weaver probably won’t be amongst the Cy Young candidates at the end of the season, but perhaps he should be getting some consideration. He is 4-0 in his L/7 starts, and the Angels are a perfect 7-0 in that stretch. It’s not like he’s beating slackers in this run either. The Yankees, Twins (twice), and Rangers (twice) are amongst those seven victories.
3) Tim Wakefield, Boston Red Sox (13-4, +$922) Tim Wakefield, where are you? The Red Sox are in dire need of a boost to their rotation after getting shelled by Tampa Bay and New York in back-to-back series. Unfortunately, the knuckler can only replace either John Smoltz or Brad Penny, not both of them.
4) Felix Hernandez, Seattle Mariners (17-6, +$905) King Felix may not have had his best stuff on Friday night when the Rays came to town, but the M’s got the last laugh in a 7-6 victory. If Hernandez was pitching for a contending team, he’d probably be in serious Cy Young consideration, but his 12-4 record and 2.84 ERA just don’t stack up to the numbers being put up by the likes of Roy Halladay and Zach Greinke on teams that are also out of it. Still, he has only been beaten once since May 19th, and the Mariners are 10-1 in his L/11 starts.
5) Jeff Niemann, Tampa Bay Rays (14-6, +$892) The hot run for Rays bettors with Niemann on the hill has appeared to take a turn for the worse. Yes, the big right-hander left Friday’s game against Hernandez and the Mariners in position to pick up a win, but allowing four runs in 6.1 innings just isn’t going to cut it. It’s hard to complain over a rookie who is 10-5 with a 3.73 ERA though. Niemann should be the AL’s Rookie of the Year, but he’d much rather be in a position to pitch the Rays into the playoffs.
6) Scott Feldman, Texas Rangers (14-6, +$879) Speaking of trying to pitch a team into the playoffs… Feldman is 6-2 in his L/8 starts, and at times, it feels like he is putting the entire Texas team on his back. He labored through six tough innings against the Halos on Friday night, giving up four runs on a whopping 121 pitches, but he found a way to scrap his team to a victory. The Rangers are within striking distance of the playoffs still, and Feldman will be a huge piece to the puzzle if they’re going to make it.
7) Josh Beckett, Boston Red Sox (16-6, +$772) The Red Sox are in need of some serious help, but it certainly isn’t Josh Beckett’s fault. The right-hander threw seven spotless frames against the Yankees in the Bronx to extend his scoreless innings streak to 14.1, but the Sox gave him absolutely no help offensively. As a result, Boston lost 2-0 in 15 innings on Friday night in the game that may ultimately prove to be the one that unravels its season.
