MLB Baseball Series Betting 3 Pack – Seattle, Minnesota, San Diego Opening Week

Seattle Mariners

The Texas Rangers are big underdogs for their series in Seattle and that is mostly because of the disparity in pitching.

They face Erik Bedard, Felix Hernandez and Carlos Silva while they throw Kevin Millwood, Vicente Padilla and Jason Jennings.

Although the Mariners will be unveiling their prized acquisition of the offseason in their home opener, the results may not be as expected. Bedard had an 8.63 ERA in spring and although he’ll be solid in the long run, he might not be sharp as of yet.

On the flipside, though, Millwood, who is posted a career-worst 5.16 ERA last season, has lost his last two season openers.

If the Rangers can steal the opener, they would likely have to win the third game to win the series since King Felix is on the mound tomorrow.

The Rangers are a hitting team that is heading to a pitcher’s ballpark in Seattle where defense is also a key. Those two facets pose problems for the Rangers.

Minnesota Twins

The Minnesota Twins won’t have to wait long to find out how much they miss Torrii Hunter. Their former All-Star centerfielder comes to visit as a new member of the Angels on opening night.

With the Angels missing two of their top three starters, the Twins might present good value in this series. Ace John Lackey is on the disabled list while No. 2 starter Kelvim Escobar is out for a prolonged period of time with back problems.

More importantly, the Twins will also be facing Ervin Santana as one of the three pitchers they face this week and he was terrible on the road this season.

The Twins are a young team that will likely need the self-esteem boost they get from the crowd to help them out. They have a pitching advantage and should be charged up enough facing their former teammate to play up to the Angels level for this series.

Free Pick: Minnesota

San Diego Padres

The Houston Astros are no longer a pitching juggernaut with a flimsy batting order. They have morphed into the complete opposite, and coincidentally, also the complete opposite of the opponent they will be facing.

The Astros have only one frontline pitcher and a group of scrubs behind them. Their ace, Roy Oswalt, takes to the mound tonight as they open a four-game series in San Diego.

The Astros have a formidable batting order though, something that the Padres would like to have. They added a couple of speedy leadoff batters in Michael Bourn and Kaz Matsui at the top of the order, something the Padres would also like to have.

The Astros need to win tonight to have a good chance at splitting this series. The good news is that Oswalt has a 7-1 lifetime record against San Diego, which is a good sign for the series opener.

Free Pick: Houston
