Group 1:
Tom Glavine

vs

Chris Carpenter

In a rematch of last year’s National League Championship Series, the 2006 National League Cy Young winner, Chris Carpenter, gets the season started against a potent Mets lineup. Both Carpenter and Glavine are 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA – but it is the opening night of the season.

: Chris Carpenter

Group 2:
Carlos Beltran
Carlos Delgado

vs

Albert Pujols
Scott Rolen

While the Cardinals rely heavily on Albert Pujols for a large chunk of their power, the Mets lineup is much more balanced. The Cardinals need a good showing from Scott Rolen. His power numbers have dipped in the past two seasons after notching 34 home runs in 2004.

: Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado

Group 3:
David Wright

vs

Jim Edmonds

Speaking of St. Louis Cardinals who seem to be over the hill, Edmonds is in that category. After notching 42 home runs in 2004, he dropped to 29 in 2005 and 19 in 2006. His batting average has steadily declined in each of those seasons as well. Wright has the makeup 30-100 makeup but keep in mind, for this matchup specifically, Edmonds hits in the cleanup spot while Wright is slated to bat sixth.

: David Wright

Group 4:
Jose Reyes

vs

David Eckstein

Cardinals’ leadoff man David Eckstein has struggled this spring, mostly due to a strained oblique muscle. Jose Reyes is a top-five fantasy player because of he provides virtually everything you need: hits, runs, stolen bases, power and he hits for average. Sounds like a mismatch? It is a mismatch.

: Jose Reyes

Group 5:
Jose Reyes
Paul Lo Duca

vs

David Eckstein
Chris Duncan

Chris Duncan hit 22 home runs in two-thirds of a season last year and now fits into the number two spot in the Cardinals lineup. He has 30 home run potential and looks to be quite the sleeper on the Cardinals lineup. Lo Duca, who bats second in the Mets lineup, is more of a patient, small-ball hitter.

: David Eckstein, Chris Duncan

Group 6:
Jose Reyes
Carlos Beltran
Carlos Delgado

vs

Albert Pujols
Jim Edmonds
Scott Rolen

: Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado
