It was just two weeks ago that Strasburg was pulled from a scheduled start against Atlanta, but appears to be healthy entering Tuesday night. And when he is healthy, what a pitcher he is.
We all know about Strasburg’s pedigree and electric stuff, but the numbers certainly back up the fact that he is already one of the elite pitchers in baseball.
In nine starts, Strasburg’s record is 5-2 with a 2.32 ERA, as he has struck out a mind-boggling 75 hitters in just 54.1 innings of work. He has one previous start against Florida, when he pitched six innings of shutout ball, limiting the Marlins to four hits back on July 16.
As for his competition on the bump Tuesday, it will come in the form of Florida righty Anibal Sanchez. Sanchez himself was once a heralded pitching prospect, but has come upon tough times in the past few years. 2010 has provided a nice bounce back, as he is currently 8-7 with an ERA that stands at an even 3.50. Those looking to get make the Marlins their baseball betting pick need to be warned though, Sanchez went just 4.1 innings in his last start.
Now that we’ve covered the pitching matchups, who will have the advantage at the dish? It would seem to go to Florida.
The Marlins are hardly a juggernaut, but do have professional hitters from top to bottom, with four of their starters hitting at least .270 on the year. Dan Uggla leads in the power department, with team highs in home runs (25) and runs batted in (67). This team was dealt a major blow however, when power hitter Jorge Cantu was traded at the deadline.
Regardless of their opposition’s hot bats though, the Nationals should still be your Tuesday baseball betting pick.
With Stephen Strasburg on the mound, this team won’t need to put up a ton offense, just a few runs to get them through this game. With power hitters like Adam Dunn (30 home runs) and Ryan Zimmerman, Washington should be able to scrape a few runs across the board, and seal a money line victory.
Baseball’s brightest young player will be back on the mound Tuesday night, and there’s no reason not to make him, and the Nationals your Tuesday night baseball betting pick.
