Bookmark and Share by Eric Williams

The St. Louis Cardinals (46-39 SU, 42-43 RL, 38-43-4 O/U) will be looking to extend their two-game winning streak when they battle the Milwaukee Brewers (43-40 SU, 44-39 RL, 42-40-1 O/U) at Miller Park tonight at 8 PM ET.

The Cardinals blanked the Brewers on Tuesday night, winning 5-0 as Adam Wainwright tossed 8.1 scoreless innings to get the victory.

St. Louis cashed as +130 road underdogs while the final score played Under the 8-run Over/Under total.

Ryan Ludwick went 2-for-4 with a three-run blast for the Cardinals, while Colby Rasmus also went 3-for-5 with a home runs and two RBI.

Starter, Yovani Gallardo was handed the loss for Milwaukee after allowing four runs over five innings for Milwaukee, as Corey Hart went 3-for-4 for the Brewers.

Tonight, the Cardinals will hand the ball to veteran right-hander Todd Wellemeyer (7-7, 5.44 ERA) while the Brewers counter with right-hander Jeff Suppan (5-6, 4.60 ERA).

Wellemeyer held the San Francisco Giants to just two runs on seven hits while striking out six in 7.1 innings of a 5-2 win on Thursday.

Suppan limited the Chicago Cubs to one run on four hits in seven innings of Milwaukee’s 2-1 loss on Friday.

Here is a look at tonight’s key trends, followed by my in-depth analysis and MLB Free Pick.

The Cardinals are 5-1 in their last 6 overall.
The Cardinals are 4-1 in their last 5 games vs. a right-handed starter.

Analysis: The Milwaukee Brewers are ranked 24th in hitting with a team batting average of .255 while also ranking 24th in pitching with a team earned run average of 4.49.

The St. Louis Cardinals are ranked 22nd in hitting with a team batting average of .256 while the St. Louis Cardinals are ranked 3rd in pitching with an earned run average of 3.77.

Todd Wellemeyer has allowed at least three earned runs in six of his last eight starts while allowing five earned runs twice and six earned runs once during the span.

Prior to his last start, Jeff Suppan had allowed 12 earned runs on a whopping 27 hits over his last three starts covering 16.2 innings, losing two of those starts.

The Milwaukee Brewers have dropped two straight and five of six overall while the St. Louis Cardinals have won two straight games in highly convincing fashion.

Both starting pitchers have been a bit uninspiring recently, leading me to believe the better-coached and hungrier team (St. Louis) will win this matchup tonight.

The Cardinals have some solid trends in their favor as well, going 5-0 in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 5-1 in their last six games overall.

St. Louis has also gone 4-1 in their last five games against a right-handed starter and 6-0 in Todd Wellemeyer’s last six starts as a road underdog.

While the Brewers have gone a solid 14-5 in their last 19 home games against a team with a winning record and are 6-1 in Suppan’s last seven starts following a Quality Start in his last appearance.

The Brewers have also gone a disappointing 1-4 in their last five games versus a right-handed starter and 1-4 in Jeff Suppan’s last five home starts.

I also like the Under to cash in for BetUS MLB betting enthusiasts as it has gone 6-1 in the Cardinals last seven games, 4-0 in Todd Wellemeyer’s last four starts with five days of rest and 5-1-2 in Jeff Suppan’s last eight starts as a home favorite.
