MLB ALDS: Game 4 Free Betting Preview And Picks

Boston Red Sox (108-54) vs. New York Yankees (100-62)
Game 4: Tuesday, October 9th - 8:07pm ET - Yankee Stadium
Betting Line: New York -118, Total 9

The Boston Red Sox put a beating on the New York Yanks last night. Boston won Game 3 of the American League Division Series (ALDS) 16-1.

Boston starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi wasn't originally scheduled to pitch last night. He was moved down the pitching chart a day ahead of Rick Porcello. The BoSox clearly made the right choice. Not only was Boston's hitting clearly clicking, Eovaldi had a stellar game. The sixth year righty allowed just one run and five hits through seven innings. 72 of his 97 pitches were strikes. Eovaldi struck out five batters before calling it a night in the 7th inning.

Brock Holt, who saw the plate six times led the team with a .667 batting average. He went 4 of 6 while completing the cycle, making him the first player in history to do so in the postseason.

The score was 3-0 leading into the 4th inning. The Boston offense exploded with 7 earned runs in that inning (there were no errors all game). The Red Sox are the best team in baseball. It clearly showed on Monday. Boston now leads the series 2-1 heading into tonight's game.

CC Sabathia takes the mound for New York in Game 4.

The total has gone Over in 7 of Boston's last 8 games. The total has also gone over in 7 of Boston's 8 at New York and in 9 of NY's last 10 games overall. This doesn't paint the full picture, however. Since 2015, the Under has hit in 12 of the Yankees 13 games against Boston with CC Sabathia on the mound. New York is 9-4 SU in those games.

With Rick Porcello on the mound, the Under is 11-3-2 in Boston's last 16 games against New York. They're 8-8 SU in those games.

Monday was a crushing defeat for New York, no doubt. Their poor decisions and lack of execution has them facing elimination on Tuesday night. This is the third straight postseason series where they find themselves behind after three games. They beat Cleveland in last year's ALDS and won Game 4 vs Houston in the ALCS.

Sabathia enters Game 4 with plenty of postseason experience. In 24 appearances, he's 10-6 with a 4.20 ERA. He's unbeaten in 10 ALDS starts (6-0 with a 3.32 ERA).

This season, Sabathia faced the Red Sox three times. He finished 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA.

The Yankees aren't as bad as their Game 3 performance suggests. The Red Sox are just better. I'm betting this isn't the end of the road for them. Baseball's greatest rivalry will last one more game. Take New York on the money line and bet a few bucks on the Under.
