MLB Weekly Rundown And Lock Of The Week: Houston Astros vs Detroit Tigers

This weekend will conclude the first half of the Major League Baseball season. The 2018 MLB All-Star Game will take place on Tuesday, July 17, with regular games resuming next Friday. Let's take a look at a few of the best games to bet this weekend before giving our Lock of the Week.

Friday, July 13: Seattle Mariners vs. Colorado Rockies: Mariners' ace, James Paxton, will start against the Rockies on Friday night. Coors Field is a tough place to pitch, but Paxton is too good, and should shut down the Rockies in this one.

Saturday, July 14: Boston Red Sox vs. Toronto Blue Jays: The Boston Red Sox are the best team in baseball and will be taking on a struggling Blue Jays this weekend. Eduardo Rodriguez (11-3) will start for Boston. He should get plenty of run support from his offense.

Sunday, July 15: Miami Marlins vs. Philadelphia Phillies: Phillies ace, Aaron Nola, will be opposed by Marlins starter, Jose Urena, in the series finale. Nola might be the best pitcher in the National League at the moment. He should be able to shutdown a struggling Marlins team.

Sunday, July 15: San Diego Padres vs. Chicago Cubs: All-Star, Jon Lester, will start for the Cubs on Sunday against the Padres. Lester is having one of the best years of his career against the struggling Padres. The Cubs are the pick in this game.

Lock of the Weekend-Saturday, July 14: Houston Astros vs. Detroit Tigers

The Detroit Tigers are limping into the All-Star Break while the Houston Astros probably don't want to take a break. These two teams will square off this weekend where the Astros have a great shot to sweep the three game series. The pitching match-up on Saturday afternoon is the biggest reason for declaring this the Lock of the Weekend.

All-Star, Gerrit Cole, will make the start for the Astros on Saturday. Cole is in his first season with the Astros, and is having the best season of his career. Cole is 9-2 with a miniscule 2.57 earned run average. The Tigers will send Michael Fullmer to the mound to take on a great Astros lineup. Fullmer is just 3-8 with a 4.11 earned run average for the Tigers. The Tigers as a team are ranked in the bottom third of the league in ERA. The Astros should be able to score a ton of runs all series long.

Not only do the Astros have a big pitching edge in this series, their lineup is also much more dangerous than the Tigers'. The Astros are the second highest scoring team in baseball, while the Tigers are near the bottom in the same category. Reigning MVP, Jose Altuve, is having another monster season at the plate for Houston, but he has plenty of support behind him. The defending World Series Champion Astros have not suffered a hangover in 2018, and they look like a strong contender to repeat this season. The Houston Astros, behind Cole,  are a lock to defeat the Detroit Tigers on Saturday.
