With Tuesday’s 7-2 loss to the Cincinnati Reds (69-81 SU, 65-72-12 O/U, 68-81 RL), the Cardinals have now dropped six consecutive games and are on the verge of being mathematically eliminated from postseason competition.

Cardinals manager Tony La Russ will send veteran right-hander Todd Wellemeyer, (12-7, 3.63), to the mound as he looks to continue his string of strong road performances this season.

Wellemeyer, who is 4-1 on the road this season with a solid 2.87 ERA, was the victim of a tough-luck loss in his last start after allowing just two earned runs in five innings a 3-2 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Thursday.

The Reds will counter with veteran right-handed starter Aaron Harang (4-16, 4.96 ERA), a 16-game winner in each of the last two seasons who is tied with Detroit’s Justin Verlander for the most losses in the majors this season.

Harang is coming off a solid performance in his last start, limiting the Arizona Diamondbacks to one earned run in seven innings of the Reds’ 3-2 loss on Friday.

St. Louis first baseman and NL MVP candidate Albert Pujols is batting a robust .416 over his last 26 games.

Here is a look at tonight’s key online MLB betting Free Picks:

The Cardinals are 4-0 in Wellemeyer’s last 4 starts during game 2 of a series.

The Cardinals are 5-1 in Wellemeyer’s last 6 Wednesday starts.

The Reds are 14-3 in Harang’s last 17 Wednesday starts.

The Reds are 4-1 in Harang’s last 5 home starts vs. a team with a winning record.

The Over is 5-0 in Wellemeyer’s last 5 starts vs. a team with a losing record.

The Under is 4-0 in Harang’s last 4 starts overall.

MLB Odds

St. Louis Cardinals -1½ +140

Todd Wellemeyer –R -120

Cincinnati Reds +1½ -160

Aaron Harang –R Ev

Over 9 -105

Under 9 -115

Analysis: I like the Cardinals to help Aaron Harang become the sole leader in losses by putting up just enough runs in this contest and getting a much-needed quality start from Todd Wellemeyer. Take the Cards to snap their inopportune losing streak with a big win.
