Thursday MLB Betting - Back the Phillies, Brewers & Diamondbacks!

The dogs finally barked for us last night, well at least one of them, as the Cubs overcame the Dodgers as +170 MLB betting underdogs to win the series 2-1. Max Scherzer was simply electric in dominating the Yankees, and though Josh Tomlin made it to the 9th on just 70+ pitches vs. the A’s, his bats failed him as the Tribe saw its 8-game winning streak get snapped. I’m firing right back at tonight’s limited slate with three more positions!

Washington Nationals @ Philadelphia Phillies

Game Date/Time: Thursday, May 5, 7:05 ET

Game Location: Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, PA

TV/Radio Broadcast: MASN, Comcast (Philadelphia), XM

MLB Odds

Washington Nationals     +1.5 -115            +200

(John Lannan - L)

Philadelphia Phillies        -1.5 -105              -240

(Roy Halladay - R)

Total                                7 O -120         7 U +100

If the starting hurler is not named Joe Blanton when facing them, it doesn’t look as if the Nationals have the bats to get the best of Philadelphia’s unbelievable starting pitching staff this season. Philly is a perfect 3-0 with Hamels, Lee and Halladay facing them; heck, they even won with Vance Worley last night. Doc gets his second MLB betting look at the Nats tonight – he enters his seventh start of the season 4-1 with a 2.14 ERA & 0.99 WHIP having allowed just 39 hits and 11 ERs through his 46.1 total innings of work. He’s a dominating 9-1 with a 1.93 ERA & 0.94 WHIP in 12 career starts against Washington. On the flipside, Lannan’s 0-9 with a 5.79 ERA & 1.65 WHIP in 12 career starts vs. Philadelphia. Throw 75 percent of a full MLB betting investment on the Phillies moneyline and 25 percent on the run-line as Doc cruises to his 5th MLB betting triumph of the season.

Milwaukee Brewers @ Atlanta Braves

Game Date/Time: Thursday, May 5, 7:10 ET

Game Location: Turner Field, Atlanta, GA

TV/Radio Broadcast: FOX-Wisconsin + South, XM

MLB Odds

Milwaukee Brewers     +1.5 -190        +115

(Shaun Marcum - R)

Atlanta Braves             -1.5 +160                  -135

(Brandon Beachy - R)

Total                            7.5 O +105       7.5 U -125

Of all the teams getting off to horrendous starts, save for the Boston Red Sox in the AL, I have to say the Brew Crew are the most disappointing. I truly feel this squad is loaded with talent both in the hitting and pitching department, but Manager Ron Roenicke has yet to find that spark to get them going. Maybe a sweep in yesterday’s MLB betting twin bill will have turned the trick. My investment sure hopes so since I find it absolutely laughable that a rookie for the most part is favored over such an electric arm in Marcum’s. Sure Beachy’s been one of the bright spots in the Braves rotation to start the year, but I attribute it to other club’s lack of knowledge about his stuff. This however will be his second go round vs. the Brew Crew after he tossed six innings of 1 ER ball at them at Miller Park in his first start of the 2011 season. Atlanta’s failed to win any of Beachy’s L/5 outings as a favorite, so look for the Brewers to be aggressive early and parlay it into a ‘W’ to halt their Turner Field MLB betting losing streak at four.

Colorado Rockies @ Arizona Diamondbacks

Game Date/Time: Thursday, May 5, 9:40 ET

Game Location: Chase Field, Phoenix, AZ

TV/Radio Broadcast: ROOT (Colorado), FOX-Arizona, XM

MLB Odds

Colorado Rockies                    +1.5 -200        +100

(Jason Hammel - R)

Arizona Diamondbacks          -1.5 +170               -120

(Ian Kennedy - R)

Total                                      9 O -110               9 U -110

These NL West rivals have alternated wins and losses in each of their five meetings this season with the Rockies evening up this series in the desert at a game apiece after winning 6-4 last night behind yet another solid effort from Jhoulys Chacin. Looking to help his team bounce back and earn the MLB betting series win will be righty Ian Kennedy who really seems to have just gotten it since coming over from the Yankees. The righty is 3-1 with a 3.92 ERA and the Snakes have won four of his six 2011 starts. He’s gotten loads of run support in his four Chase Field outings (6.25 RPG), and the D’Backs offense will be staring back at Jason Hammel who owns a career 5.49 ERA against them. Zona’s 3-2 off a loss in Game 3 of a series to date, and it’s also 5-1 in Kennedy’s L/6 home starts vs. +.500 opposition. With Colorado failing to string together victories of late (1-6 L/7 when playing off a win), look for the Diamondbacks to continue these division rivals pattern of alternating wins against one another and earn the series win with an MLB betting triumph this evening.
