2018 World Series Betting Preview: Boston Red Sox vs Los Angeles Dodgers

The best team in baseball, the Boston Red Sox, made quick work of the Houston Astros in the American League Championship Series. In doing so, they've given themselves more than enough time to fully rest ahead of their World Series matchup vs the Los Angeles Dodgers, who went seven games vs the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Championship Series.

Boston defeated the the Astros in five games after some solid play on both sides of the plate. The Red Sox outscored the Stros 29-21. After losing Game 1 at home 7-2, the bats started going. Boston scored 7+ runs in each of the next three games and four runs in the series winner.

Right fielder, J.D. Martinez, who was solid all year, hitting for .330, 43 home runs, and 130 RBI, is hitting .313 in the playoffs. He's tallied 10 hits in 32 at-bats, 9 RBI, and 7 walks.

Boston has seen some production from 21-year old Rafael Devers. The 3rd baseman from the Dominican Republic is hitting .350 in six games played. Through 20 at-bats, Dever has 7 hits, a home run, and 7 RBI.

Starting pitcher David Price got the win in Game 5. Through six innings, the left-hander struck out nine batters and allowed just three hits.

This is the 14th pennant for the Boston Red Sox. They are 8-4 in World Series appearances (there was no World Series played in 1904, when they won the American League).

The Red Sox are 17-13 SU in their last 30 postseason games.

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 5-1 in an NLCS Game 7 on the road. Right Christian Yelich got things off to a great start for the Brewers. In his first at-bat, Yelich homered to right-center in the bottom of the first inning. L.A.'s Cody Bellinger returned the favor with a boomer to right field, which brought in Manny Machado. Up 2-1 in the top of the sixth, L.A. right fielder Yasiel Puig belted a 413 foot home run over the center field wall to extend the Dodgers' lead 5-1.

Rookie right-hander Walter Buehler pitched a great game. He threw 4.2 inning and allowed just six hits and a run while striking out seven. Buehler is only the fourth rookie since 1988 to start a Game 7.

Unlike their NBA counterparts, the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers don't share too much history. They've taken the field together just 15 times since 2002. Boston slightly leads the matchups 8-7 straight up and against the spread. The last time these teams met (2016), L.A. won the series 2-1.

The LA. Dodgers have not won a championship in 30 years. After coming up short in last year's World Series, they hope that'll change this fall.

L.A. has had a rough road to the World Series. Despite making it this far, I don't trust them enough to defeat the well rested Red Sox over the course of seven games. Boston opened up at -135 favorites of the Dodgers. They're the best bet. I like the BoSox to end it in six.

Game 1 of the 2018 MLB World Series is set for 8:09pm ET next Tuesday, October 23rd at Boston's Fenway Park.
