Milwaukee Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers are cooking and right now, they look like they might be the team to beat in the National League Central.

The Brewers have won eight straight – partially spurned on by the acquisition of C.C. Sabathia. The Brewers just swept a seven-game road trip, including four games at St. Louis, which was the first time they have done that since 1999.

The Brewers are 16 games over .500 for the first time since 1992 and have hit at least one home run in 20 straight games.

They should have an easy time with the Houston Astros who have lost four straight and 12 of their last 18. The Brewers have won five of the last six meetings this season and should win at least two of three games this weekend.

They will throw Manny Parra, Dave Bush and Jeff Suppan versus Wandy Rodriguez, Brandon Backe and Randy Wolf. The Astros three pitchers are 6-13 on the road this season.

San Francisco Giants

The Arizona Diamondback are reeling and need some kind of help at the trade deadline to give their listless batting order a shot in the arm. The D-Backs will try to get back to .500 or better as they head for a three-game series to San Francisco.

The good news is that the D-Backs will throw two of their best three starters in the series. Dan Haren and Brandon Webb will pitch Friday and Saturday, respectively, and the team is 4-2 in their combined last six starts.

But the Giants will counter with their own studs: Jonathan Sanchez and Cy Young candidate Tim Lincecum.

Sanchez is sixth in the Majors in strikeouts but has struggled this month. Sanchez may be wearing down. He's allowed 10 earned in 14.1 innings pitched this month.

Lincecum also struggled this month. The All-Star is second in the Majors in strikeouts and has a sparkling 2.79 ERA to go along with it but has an ERA of 4.50 this month.

The final matchup of this series will be Randy Johnson and Barry Zito.

Philadelphia Phillies

If the Atlanta Braves want to make a run at the National League East division, they will have to make their move now. Time is running out but considering they are discussing trading veterans like Mark Teixeira, they might be looking to head into a rebuilding mode.

The Braves are 6.5 games out of first place, which isn't outrageous, but they have to make their move now.

They head to Philadelphia for a three-game series. The Phillies have lost four of their last five games overall but have won four of their last five home games.

The Phillies have dominated this series this year winning eight of nine games while being outscored 40-15 in their seven consecutive losses.

Compounding the Braves problems will be the fact that the NL's leading hitter, Chipper Jones, will be out of the lineup.
