MLB Coldest Teams in Baseball

With the 2008 MLB regular season coming to a close, you have to spend a lot of money to make less backing teams that have distinguished themselves as better than the rest. Seeing greater than –200 favorites shouldn’t come as a surprise from here on out.

I don’t recommend ever laying that type of chalk, but you’ll feel a whole lot more comfortable laying it when going up against the following teams who are simply struggling at the moment…..

1) Cincinnati Reds (53-67) (2-8 L/10 -$725.00) The Reds looked to be a player within the NL Central before the season started, and they even held their own throughout the first couple months of the season.

However, their 7-17 mark since the All Star break now finds them 19-games out of first place with a great deal of work to be done to compete in 2009. Coming into Wednesday night’s match-up with the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Reds have dropped 8 of their L/10 costing sportsbettors upwards of $700 during the stretch. The exodus of both Ken Griffey Jr. and Adam Dunn will allow some of its younger talent to experience playing the game at the big league level.

There’s still some really nice pieces to the Reds puzzle at hand, but buyer beware since you’ll never know what you’re going to get when putting your hard-earned money down on this team throughout the rest of the regular season.

2) Detroit Tigers (58-61) (3-7 L/10 -$540.00) The Tigers looked to be on the right track towards getting back into the AL Central race sitting 47-47 at the All Star break, but they haven’t been able to chew into any more of the lead since and now find themselves 8.5-games back. As amazing as Tampa Bay’s story has been this season, Detroit’s has been even more; just completely on the other side of the spectrum.

This club figured to breeze through the AL Central and smash a number of offensive records along the way. It just didn’t go as planned as the club was ravaged with injuries, Miguel Cabrera struggled mightily adjusting to his new team, Dontrelle Willis was never a factor, and many key components to their successful 2006 team just never made their presence felt; at least in a good way.

They’ve cost the MLB wagering public both at home (31-25 -$455) and especially on the road (27-36 -$880) for a current grand total loss of $1335 on the year. They’ve already placed Gary Sheffield on waivers hoping somebody will take his salary off their hands, and shipped C Ivan Rodriguez to the Yankees for an ineffective reliever so it’s safe to say the Tigers front office has given up on this season.

3) Oakland Athletics (55-63) (2-8 L/10 -$525.00) Oakland finds itself in a list that GM Billy Beane would rather not see, but the guy’s forgotten more about baseball than I’ll ever know so he must have had good reason to unload the players he did before the trade deadline.

Last nights home win over the MLB bettors on a nightly basis, and has allowed sportsbettors to take a couple more road trips over the last month after serving up some easily won gas money.

Oakland was in the heart of the AL West race only a short couple months ago, but they now find themselves 20-games behind the Los Angeles Angels with only next season to look forward to.
