MLB Props - American League Team Win Totals

Bookmark and Share by Eric Williams

Several American League teams are expected to improve on their 2008 win total (New York, Cleveland, Seattle) while others will invariably take a step backwards in 2009.

This look at each team and their set O/U win-total odds, followed by my brief analysis, will point BetUS BetUS Sportsbook.

AL East

Over 73½ wins Ev

Under 73½ wins -130

Analysis: The O’s went 68-93 last season and didn’t do much at all to improve their ballclub heading into 2009. I like the Under 73½ wins here, just barely.

Over 94½ wins -130

Under 94½ wins Ev

Analysis: The Sox won 95 games last season and should be able to reach that total again in 2009 with some smart offseason acquisitions. The Red Sox go Over 94½ wins here.

Over 95½ wins +110

Under 95½ -140

Analysis: The Yankees haven’t won over 94 games in either of the last two seasons and won just 89 last season. Despite adding some serious talent this offseason, I say they fall just short of 96 wins. Take the Under here MLB sports betting buffs.

Over 87½ wins -165

Under 87½ wins +135

Analysis: The Rays won 97 games last season and should be almost as good this year with their fantastic pitching staff and newfound confidence. Take the Over here.

Over 80½ wins +130

Under 80½ wins -160

Analysis: The Jays won 86 games last season and should approach that mark again despite their uninspiring offseason transactions. However, venerable manager Cito Gaston gets this team to at least 81 wins. Take the Over.

AL Central

Over 79½ wins +140

Under 79½ wins -170

Analysis: Despite Chicago’s failure to sign any significant free agents, no way does fiery manager Ozzie Guillen fail to push his ballclub to 80 wins. Take the Over here.

Over 85½ wins -115

Under 85½ wins -115

Analysis: The Indians took a small step backwards in 2008, winning just 81 games, but should be able to reach 86 wins this season if they avoid the big slump. Take the Over.

Over 82½ wins +105

Under 82½ wins -135

Analysis: The Tigers were arguably the most disappointing team in all of baseball last season and didn’t do much to improve their aging ballclub. As much as I love manager Jim Leyland, I don’t see 83 wins for the Tigers in 2009. Take the Under MLB bettors.

Over 75½ wins -110

Under 75½ wins -120

Analysis: The Kansas City Royals have been a mess for years now and while they have hit new lows along the way, I like them em to go Over the 75½-win total in 2009 after winning 75 games exactly last season.

Over 83½ wins -135

Under 83½ wins +105

Analysis: Minnesota won 88 games last season and will once again contend for the AL Central title as they go Over their set O/U win total. I think a minimum of 85 wins is about right for the overachieving Twins.

AL West

Over 89 ½ wins -105

Under 89 ½ wins -125

Analysis: The Angels have several quality starting pitchers and some excellent hitters, not to mention the fact that they rule the AL West. After reaching 100 wins last season, I say the Angels top their set O/U total for this season-long wager. Take the Over here MLB bettors.

Over 81½ wins -155

Under 81½ wins -115

Analysis: The A’s should see 82 wins in 2009 after struggling to reach 75 wins last season with their plethora of talented young pitchers and improved health from some of their veteran position players like Eric Chavez. Take the Over here BetUS MLB Sportsbook bettors.

Over 72½ wins -130

Under 72½ wins Ev

Analysis: After winning a pitiful 61 games last season, the Mariners undoubtedly top their set O/U win total for 2009. Take the Over in the ‘lock’ wager.

Over 73½ wins -130

Under 73½ wins Ev

Analysis: The Rangers could use a total makeover with their entire pitching staff, but were good enough to win 79 games last season. As pathetic as their hurlers, the team can smack the cover off the ball on most nights and will go Over their O/U win total here.
