Wide Open Field Chases National League MVP Award

Bookmark and Share by BetUS Staff

With just weeks remaining in the 2008 MLB regular season, MLB wager centered on the outcome of the 2008 National League MVP finish.

With a wide-open field featuring several legitimate candidates to win the NL MVP award this season, BetUS MLB Bettors have a variety of players they can lay a wager on in hopes of taking home some extra MLB ‘cheddar’ before the conclusion of the 2008 MLB wagering season.

Here is a look at the 2008 NL MVP award odds followed by each player’s 2008 batting statistics and my brief analysis selection on which player will ultimately win the award.

2008 Batting Statistics

Games –AB-Runs-Hits-2B-3B-HR-RBI-SB-CS-BB-SO-SAC-AVG-OBP-SLG

Albert Pujols +300
St. Louis Cardinals - 123, 440, 83, 160, 36, 0, 29, 89, 6, 2, 87, 47, 0, .364, .468, .643
Even though he missed about 30 games due to injury early in the regular season, Pujols is clearly the best hitter in the National League and possibly all of baseball.

Chase Utley +300
Philadelphia Phillies - 135, 519, 92, 152, 35, 3, 31, 87, 12, 1, 56, 88, 0, .293, .381, .551
If Utley heats up during the final month, he’ll give himself a legitimate shot to win the NL MVP.

Chipper Jones +500
Atlanta Braves - 109, 390, 72, 140, 20, 1, 20, 66, 2, 0, 73, 54, 0, .359, .457, .569
Jones has been awesome at the plate this season, but Atlanta has underachieved badly.

David Wright +300
New York Mets -135, 529, 96, 156, 36, 2, 27, 103, 14, 5, 81, 95, 0, .295, .386, .524
Wright may be the front runner right now as he has heated up in a big way recently. If the Mets win the NL East, Wright will get his share of votes – and could win the 2008 NL MVP.

Hanley Ramirez +1500
Florida Marlins - 134, 519, 101, 154, 29, 4, 28, 60, 29, 12, 76, 113, 0, .297, .392, .530
Were this vote taken at midseason, Ramirez likely would have won. However he’s cooled off in the second half and so have the Marlins.

Matt Holliday +300
Colorado Rockies - 121, 470, 97, 157, 34, 2, 24, 78, 25, 1, 66, 87, 0, .334, .421, .568
Holliday is a hitting machine and could win if the Rockies pull off another miracle comeback and win the NL West.

Field (Any Other Player) +150

Analysis: If I had to make a pick right now, I’d go with one of two players. New York’s David Wright and his teammate Carlos Delgado who is hotter than any National League batter at the moment. While Albert Pujols and Chipper Jones have outstanding batting averages, I don’t think there’s a more ‘clutch’ hitter in the National League right now than Delgado.

If the Mets hold on to win the NL East, I say Delgado wins and Wright should get more than his share of votes. If the Phillies pull out the NL East, particularly because of Chase Utley, I’d lean toward the Phillies gifted second baseman.

MLB Free Picks: 1. Carlos Delgado, 2. David Wright, 3. Chase Utley, 4. Albert Pujols, 5. Chipper Jones
