It’s time to take a look and hand out some free picks for the Top 3 wagering category in the NASCAR sports betting book for this Sunday’s Kobalt Tools 400.
The favorite to finish in the Top 3 is, of course, to win fave Jimmie Johnson. But the odds on JJ are just too low for me to make JJ one of my better bets to get into the Top 3 on March 6. Instead, I’ll go with a driver offering overlaid odds to finish in the Top 3 on Sunday.
NASCAR: Kobalt Tools 400
Where: Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Las Vegas, Nevada
When: March 6, 2011 at 3:00 pm EST
Track: 1.5 miles, Tri-Oval
Best Bet A: Jeff Burton +700
Burton is offering excellent odds in the NASCAR sportsbook to just finish in the Top 3 on Sunday. JB’s average finish so far this year has been thirty-first. That should definitely change on March 6 because Burton has excellent numbers pointing to a fantastic run at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. JB has 2 victories at LSVM, 5 total Top 5 finishes and 8 total Top 10 finishes. His average finish at Las Vegas is 9.9. He’s the one to back given the way the odds makers set the lines in this category.
Best Bet B: Matt Kenseth +700
Like Burton, Kenseth has won twice at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Also like JB, Matt has 5 total Top 5 finishes. Kenseth only has 6 total Top 10 finishes but his average finish of 11.7 over the racetrack isn’t bad at all. Kenseth figures to keep his odds in the sports book all the way to Sunday because, again like JB, he hasn’t finished in the Top 20 yet this season.
Best Long Shot Bet: A.J. Allmendinger +1800
Allmendinger has never finished in the Top 10, much less the Top 3, at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, but the online NASCAR odds on him in this category are just too good to pass up. A.J. is fourth in the Sprint Cup Standings after finishing ninth at Phoenix International Raceway and last week and finishing eleventh at Daytona two weeks ago. Allmendinger’s hot start might carry over to the track at Las Vegas this Sunday. That makes A.J. the long shot to consider backing in this category on March 6.
Others to Consider
Jeff Gordon +200 - - Only 1 victory at LSVM during his career but Gordo took home the Subway Fit Fresh trophy last week and is obviously a hot driver.
Jimmie Johnson +125 - - Maybe, the odds don’t make JJ an overlay. 4 wins and an average finish of tenth certainly say that the odds don’t.
Kyle Busch +180 - - Kyle has won at Las Vegas Motor Speedway before. He’s also finished in the Top 5 a total of 3 times. The second place finish last week at P.I.R. was nice.
