NASCAR Weekend Preview

The Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen is a heluva horrible name for a race, but the event takes center stage in the Sprint Cup Series on Sunday afternoon anyway. Watkins Glen is the second road race of the NASCAR betting season, and represents the best chance for the surging Juan Pablo Montoya to get his first win of the year.

Tony Stewart (+450). Eighth in the standings, Montoya was leading at Indianapolis before a pit penalty cost him the victory, and finished second at Pocono last week. The former Formula 1 driver finished fourth behind winner Kyle Busch (+600) last year, so he’s proven he can get it done on this course.

Series points leader Stewart is the chalk after winning at The Glen in both 2005 and 2007. Stewart came in second in 2006 and 2008, and with four victories overall is tied with Jeff Gordon (+600) for the most wins at The Glen. Starting from the back of the pack last week, Stewart made steady gains throughout the race to finish 10th at Pocono.

Not only did the younger Busch cash Watkins Glen last year, but he also took the checkered flag at Infineon. Currently 13th in the standings and 101 points out of the Chase for the Cup, Busch is banking on success this weekend to catapult up the standings.

Marcos Ambrose (+700) is great on road courses, and won the Nationwide Series race at Watkins Glen last season. Third at Infineon in June, Ambrose has a pair of top 5s and five top 10s to his credit this year.

Sleeper plays include Kevin Harvick (+2000), and road race specialist Ron Fellows (+3000). Robby Gordon has five top 5s in his past seven starts at the Glen, including a win, while Martin took the race in three consecutive years from 1993-1995.

Harvick was the winner back in 2006, while Fellows has been runner-up on two occasions. Fellows also has three victories on the Nationwide Series – all on this track.

Zippo 200

The Nationwide Tour event goes on Saturday afternoon with the Zippo 200, and Series points leader Kyle Busch (+200) is co-chalk amongst a loaded field. Ambrose (+200) is also seeing good support from public bettors, as are Harvick (+550), and Fellows (+600).

Better value exists in Robby Gordon (+750) and Denny Hamlin (+800), with Carl Edwards, Greg Biffle, Jeff Burton, and Joey Logano also getting in some extra course time.
