Centurion Boats at the Glen, Watkins Glen International, New York, August 12, 2007, ESPN (1:00PM EST)

Nextel Cup circuit moves from Pocono’s 2.5 mile tri-oval to the 2.45 mile road course at Watkins Glen. Centurion Boats takes over for AMD as corporate sponsor of this year’s race at The Glen.

Kevin Harvick won last year’s AMD at The Glen and certainly hopes the track repeats its history of producing multiple winners. Three current Cup racers have multiple wins at Watkins Glen since 1993. During that span: Tony Stewart has three wins at Watkins Glen (’02, ’04 and ’05); Jeff Gordon has four wins (’97-’99 and ’01); and, Mark Martin won three consecutive times from ’93 through ’95.

Last year, Harvick (Chevy) beat out Denny Hamlin (Chevy).

In 2005, Tony Stewart started from the pole and claimed his second-consecutive win at The Glen. Rounding out that year’s top-ten were (in order of finish): Robby Gordon (Chevy), Boris Said (Chevy), Scott Pruett (Dodge), Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (Chevy).

A Chevrolet has one each of the last four (and 9 of the last 10) races at The Glen. Pontiac was the only other manufacturer to claim a sin during that span.

As of post-time, no BetUS sportline has been posted for this weekend’s race. However, Tony Stewart’s two Cup wins in his last three outings combined with his three victories at The Glen in the last five outings has to make him a NASCAR betting odds favorite this weekend.

Nextel Cup betting line numbers would also have to favor a strong push by Jeff Gordon, who has four wins at this road course. Gordon has not finished in the top-ten at The Glen in the last two races but his success this season has been astounding (4 wins; 14 top-fives; avg. finish: 6.3).

Robbie Gordon finished in the top three each of the last two races and would be considered a favorite this weekend. However, running his own team in this year of mega-mergers has been hard on him and he has only 1 top-ten to show for this year’s efforts.

Keep an eye on road course driver Scott Pruett. Not a member of the Nextel Cup circuit, he has finished in the top-five in each of the past two races held at Watkins Glen (5th in ‘06; 4th in ’05).
