NASCAR: Odds on Jimmie winning Two in a Row in Las Vegas

Bookmark and Share by D.S. Williamson

Jimmie Johnson used a lucky caution flag in the Auto Club 500 to grab the lead and go onto a victory. It was Johnson’s first win of the year and a sign, because it happened in only the 2nd Sprint Cup Race of the year, that JJ and his crew are serious about winning their 5th straight Sprint Cup Championship.

This Sunday, Jimmie travels to a track where he has had a ton of success. Jimmie won three straight Cup races from 2005 through 2007. The man knows what he’s doing in Sin City.

Will anybody stand in his way on Sunday?

NASCAR: Shelby American

Where: Las Vegas Motor Speedway

When: 2/28/3010 at 3:00 pm EST

Best Bet: Kyle Busch +700

Kyle won this race in 2009 and has already shown more patience, he didn’t push things too far in either the Daytona 500 or the Auto Club 500, in 2010 than he did last year. Busch wants to make the Chase but he also wants to win. Kyle not only has that victory in 2009 but he also has finished in the Top 5 three times at Las Vegas. He won the pole at Las Vegas in both 2008 and 2009. Kyle should start well on Sunday and finish well on Sunday. I like him to upset JJ in this.

 to start betting on Nascar!

Best Hendrick Driver to Bet: Mark Martin +600

Jimmie’s odds of +400 are too low for me to consider a wager. Gordo has been downright awful so far in 2010. So, there’s no way that I’m taking the +1000 on him. Dale Jr. is going off at great Nascar odds of +2500 but he’s never won at Las Vegas and his average finish on the track is 17.8.

That leaves the old pro, Mark Martin. Martin’s history at Las Vegas isn’t that bad. He’s won there and has finished in the top 5 four other times. His average finish in Las Vegas is 13.5. Martin’s the Hendrick driver to bet in the NASCAR sportsbook.

Best Double-Digit Bet: Kevin Harvick +1500

Has there been a more consistent NASCAR team than Team Harvick so far in 2010? I don’t think so. Kevin finished 2nd in the Auto Club 500 last week after finishing 7th in the Daytona 500. He won the Budweiser Shoot-Out a day before the Super Bow. So what if his history at Las Vegas isn’t all that great with no victories, two Top 5, and 3 Top 10 finishes to his credit? The man and his crew have been brilliant so far in 2010. They could take the checkered flag on Sunday.

Best Long Shot: Matt Kenseth +2000

The forgotten man on the Roush-Fenway Racing team, it’s hard to remember Kenseth with Carl Edwards and Greg Biffle also suiting up for RFR, Kenseth has been awesome in Las Vegas.

Matt has two victories, four Top 5 and five Top 10 finishes at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. His average finish on the track is 12.4. Yes, Kenseth recently changed crew chiefs to Todd Parrott and that usually isn’t a great sign, but who cares? At 20 to 1, Kenseth is a serious overlay to win the Shelby American.

Other Drivers to Consider:

Juan Pablo Montoya +1200 - - No real Las Vegas form to consider, but he’s been doing extremely well in qualifying and it’s only a matter of time before Juan Pablo wins one of these.

Greg Biffle +1500 - - Biff has never won at Las Vegas but the man has that fire in his eyes. He already has a Top 5 finish on the season.

Carl Edwards +1500 - - Edwards has a victory at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and has started out 2010 very well with an 11.0 average finish.

Tony Stewart +1000 - - No wins at Las Vegas but four Top 5 finishes on the track means that Smoke has a shot.
