The Daytona 500 is more than just another race. It's the Super Bowl of motor sports. Drivers will be focused on taking the checkers at speeds nearing 200 mph. The Daytona 500 marks the start of the 10-month Nextel Cup season, and the high octane sport provides bettors great odds on building bankrolls.
Jimmie Johnson, won last year's Daytona 500 in route to his Nextel Cup championship. Johnson shares favoritism with the popular Dale Earnhardt Jr. at +400 to win the race. Earnhardt has posted a Daytona 500 win once in his career and he goes for another.
Johnson's teammate, Jeff Gordon, became the youngest driver to win the Daytona 500 in 1997, doing so at the age of 25. Gordon is the oddsmakers second choice to find victory lane, along with Tony Stewart, as both come into the race at +500.
Stewart will try to satisfy his supporters with his first ever Daytona 500 victory. This will be Stewart's ninth career Daytona 500 start. The two-time Cup champion has won the Brickyard 400 and 28 other Cup races, including two at Daytona, but never the 500.
Past Cup champions Matt Kenseth (+1350) and Bobby Labonte (+5000) will also be attempting to win this event for the first time as long shots. A victory for either driver would fatten the wallets of their investors in a big way.
The action will be fast and furious. ''White knuckle'' racing in the Daytona 500 offers excitement for bettors of all sizes. Check out all our NASCAR props and motor your way into victory lane.
