NASCAR - Odds to Win the Daytona 500

Yippety! Yippety!  Yippety!  I stole that but it applies.  NASCAR is back which is a good thing for bettors because, like golf, NASCAR provides a way to make profits without making traditional ATS bets.

Sportsbook odds are always in the “plus” when trying to pick the winner of a NASCAR race.  It’s harder to find the winner, of course, but if you do, you’re going to score big time!

This weekend is the first race of the NASCAR season, the Daytona 500.  It’s going to be a rollicking event and the BetUS online sportsbook has odds for it!

Time to Rev Up Those Betting Engines!

NASCAR:  Daytona 500 Odds to Win

Tony Stewart, +1000 sportsbook odds - - Tony the Tiger has a new team, new cars, new attitude.  Okay, maybe not the attitude, but Smoke can get it done!  I think he makes a huge splash at the beginning of this season, takes down the Daytona 500, and then falters until towards the end when getting Cup Chase points really means something.  The odds are nice on Stewart to regain the top spot - - at least for now - - by winning at Daytona.

Jeff Gordon, +700 sportsbook odds - - It’s time to back the old schoolers after Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch dominated last season.  Gordo was terrible in 2008 by his standards.  The man has pride.  His kid is a year older, or at least getting older, so I expect Gordo and his crew to bounce back this season.  Why not start it off in the Daytona 500?

Kurt Busch, +1200 sportsbook odds - - The older Busch almost won this race last year.  He can win it this year if he just makes a few important key changes at the end of the race.  Of course, he can’t crash his freaking car.  I like him to take the lead over his brother this season.

Kyle Busch, +500 sportsbook odds - - Kyle’s coming out party was in 2008.  Will he stay out?  Or, will he bounce back to reality after having a terrible Cup Chase?  I think he bounces back to reality.  He’s not going to win everything under the sun like he did in 2008 but he’ll be okay.  I believe his odds might be short in this, but he’s a contender for sure.

Car Edwards, +1000 sportsbook odds - - Carl is going off at fantastic odds.  He can take down the checkered flag by doing what he did all last season, being patient and then making a key move towards the end of the race.  I love Carl at +1000 in this.

Jimmie Johnson, +500 sportsbook odds – I’ve got Jimmie on the list because he can win the Daytona 500 but NASCAR is a long season and the champ knows that it’s important to build up terrific cars.  Jimmie and his crew won’t start tightening the screws until around 5 races outside of the Cup.  Oh, they’ll win a few here and there, but they won’t really get things going until they can smell the Cup.

Best Long Shots

Juan Pablo Montoya, +4000 sportsbook odds - - Has Montoya finally learned how to steer a NASCAR vehicle?  The guy was okay in his first season on the circuit.  Last season, he was downright pathetic.  I think he was taking his time last season to figure out exactly what he needed to do to become a winner.  Maybe, he starts at Daytona.

Clint Bowyer, +3000 sportsbook odds - - Don’t be surprised if Bowyer pulls a Kyle 2008 in 2009 by becoming a superstar.  He can definitely drive and his crew is getting better.  I’ll take a stab at those odds.

Worst Bet

Dale Earnhardt Jr., +600 sportsbook odds - - Get used to this.  Jr. is always over bet in the sportsbook.  The odds are why he’s the worst bet.  He’s second choice odds wise after Jimmie and Kyle and a lower odds choice than Stewart, Gordon and Edwards.  Really?  Seriously?  Prove it to me before I back you, Jr.  Just prove it to me.
