Teammates NASCAR betting for the 2008 Sprint Cup Series campaign will likely have to continually choose between those top drivers for wagering.
So who’s side are you on? Johnson is currently pegged as the -130 favorite to finish ahead of Gordon in the points race this season, with Gordon the -110 underdog on that prop bet. As well, Johnson (-0.5) is a -130 favorite to pick up more wins than Gordon in 2008; Gordon’s line for that wager is -110. Johnson ended up 77 points ahead of Gordon in the 2007 driver standings, and he won four more races than him (10 vs. 6).
Those two Hendrick Motorsports drivers, though, could get some competition from their new teammate on the track this season – Dale Earnhardt Jr. Last season was a forgettable one for Dale Jr. as he finished outside of the series’ Top 12 and didn’t earn a berth in the chase for the championship. However, the move to Hendrick could pay off well for Earnhardt Jr. – as evidenced by his win in the Budweiser Shootout on Saturday.
Earnhardt Jr. has been matched up with Matt Kenseth in the BetUS NASCAR props to start the season, with both drivers pegged at -120 odds to beat the other in the 2008 points race. And while Dale Jr. missed out on the series’ postseason last year, Kenseth finished in fourth place overall (425 points behind Johnson) and had 22 Top-10 results.
Clint Bowyer finished just ahead of Kenseth in third place in last year’s standings (346 points behind Johnson), but he’s a -110 underdog against Kurt Busch to finish with more points in 2008. Busch is the -130 favorite, and he ended up seventh during 2007.
Otherdriver vs. driver points race matchups for this season include Carl Edwards (-140) vs. Martin Truex Jr. (EVEN), Tony Stewart (-150) vs. Denny Hamlin (+110), Casey Mears (EVEN) vs. Ryan Newman (-140), Kevin Harvick (-130) vs. Jeff Burton (-110), and Greg Biffle (-140) vs. Kasey Kahne (EVEN). As well, “rookie driver” Dario Franchitti is the -160 favorite to pick up more points than Regan Smith (+120) during this season.
Other driver vs. driver win matchups for this season include Harvick (-115) this year.
If you’d rather place money on a manufacturer, you can get +200 odds on Johnson being the highest-finishing Chevrolet car this season. Gordon is at +250 on that list, with Earnhardt at +350, and Truex Jr. at +700. Mears (+1800) round out the Chevy odds. Kurt Busch is at +150 odds to be the highest-finishing Dodge car, while Kenseth is at EVEN odds to perform the best of all Ford drivers, and Stewart is the +125 favorite to be the top-finishing Toyota driver.
The exhibition Budweiser Shootout technically kicked off the 2008 Sprint Cup season on the weekend, but the first real event is the Daytona 500 on Sunday afternoon. Harvick is the defending Daytona 500 champion, but he’s just fifth on the BetUS NASCAR odds list at +1100 for this weekend. That puts him behind Gordon (+450), Earnhardt Jr. (+450), Johnson (+500), and Stewart (+800), and ahead of Kurt Busch (+1200) and Kyle Busch (+1400).
Other drivers and their Daytona 500 odds: Truex Jr. (+1600), Kenseth (+1600), Ryan Newman (+2000), Hamlin (+2000), Bowyer (+2500), Burton (+2500), and NASCAR lines section for all of the latest odds heading into this event.
