NBA Betting - Chicago Bulls vs. Golden State Warriors

Bookmark and Share by Mike Rose

The NBA’s highest-touted rookie and its most surprising one go head-to-head Friday night, as Derrick Rose and the sports betting line ‘total’ at 211.5. The Bulls enter with a 5-7 SU record, but are 7-5 ATS. The Warriors are 5-6 but have also been better against the spread, sitting at 6-5.

Prospective Golden State and ‘under’ bettors have some favorable betting trends going their way. The home team has covered the betting line 10 of the past 13 times these teams have squared off, and on top of that, the favorite is 7-3 ATS in the past 10. Making matters worse for Bulls bettors, their team is just 1-5 ATS in the past six games in Oakland. The ‘under’ is also 11-5 in the past 16 games between these two teams, it is 13-6 in Chicago’s past 19 games overall.

Chicago is coming off the most embarrassing loss any team has suffered this NBA betting season, getting abused by Portland in a 116-74 loss. That’s no typo: the Bulls lost by 42 points. Rose contributed to that poor showing with his worst game of the season thus far, scoring just six points on 1-of-8 shooting, the first time he’s been held under 10 points in his budding career. No Bulls player netted more than 13 points in the loss.

Despite the off-night, Rose has still exceeded the lofty expectations of being the No. 1 pick in the draft, averaging 18.3 points and 5.5 assists per night while leading the team in minutes played. He’s made it clear that he’s ready both mentally and physically for the rigors of NBA competition. But his teammates are making NBA handicappers question if they’re at the level of their rookie leader, particularly Chicago’s young big men. Tyrus Thomas and Joakim Noah have been disappointing, neither displaying any consistency whatsoever. As a result, the Bulls have yet to earn a single win on the road.

Golden State last played on Tuesday, when it beat the same Portland team that throttled Chicago, 111-106. And once again, it was Morrow who was the story, scoring 25 points to follow up a shocking 37-point performance just one game earlier, one of the signature moments early this season. The undrafted free agent has been a sparkplug for the Warriors, who have now won two in a row.

He had help against Portland, as five other players reached double-figures scoring, and the team went a remarkable 33-for-35 from the free-throw line. Golden State has been far more competitive than expected, and a balanced offensive attack led by veteran Stephen Jackson has been the primary reason. Jackson is averaging a team-high 22 points per game, and the Warriors have proved that they’ll lay down for nobody in 2008-‘09.
