NBA Game of the Week: Golden State Warriors vs San Antonio Spurs

Two heavyweights in the National Basketball Association are set to go head-to-head on Thursday. The defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors will take on the San Antonio Spurs in a Western Conference battle. The Warriors beat the Clippers on Monday Night and are now 5-3 on the season.

After four straight wins to start the season, the Spurs have dropped 3 in a row. The Spurs are 2-0 when playing at home, while Golden State is 3-1 on the road.

Warriors Seeking 4th Straight Western Conference Title

The Golden State Warriors scored a team high 141 points in the win over the Los Angeles Clippers. The Warriors are a high scoring team that leads the league with 121 points per game. The Warriors have scored 100 points or more in each of their eight games this season.

Steph Curry is averaging over 28 points per game on the season. Draymond Green has started slow, but had a monster night against the Clippers, and is now at 8 rebounds and 7 assists per game. Kevin Durant, now in his second season with the Warriors, is scoring over 25 points per game. Golden State is seeking their fourth straight regular season with 67+ wins. The Warriors have been in the NBA Finals three straight seasons as well.

Spurs Without Leader

The San Antonio Spurs are still without their top scorer Kawhi Leonard who is yet to play this season. Fortunately for a Gregg Popovich led team, San Antonio continues to dominate on the defensive side. The Spurs are allowing less than 99 points per game.

Without Leonard; LaMarcus Aldridge leads the team with 23 points per game. The big man, who signed an extension before the season started is ripping down 8 rebounds per game. Rudy Gay came over to the Spurs and is second on the team with 12 points per game. DeJounte Murray has taken over the point guard role, but that may not last long as Brandon Paul has emerged and led the team in scoring in the Monday loss.

Warriors Beat Spurs

This will be an epic game in the NBA like it is every time. There has been a great deal of talk about the struggles of the Warriors to start the season, while the Spurs have gotten a bit of a free pass. Without Leonard, not only do the Spurs struggle to score, they are also without their best lock-down defender.

No matter how good the Spurs are on defense, they are going to have a tough time slowing down the high powered Warriors offense. When push comes to shove, the Golden State Warriors are going to win this game. The Warriors win by double figures over the Spurs on Thursday night.
