Our NBA playoff betting winning streak at BetUS Sportsbook came to a crashing halt last night as both home teams, the Bulls and Lakers, not only failed to cover, but also lost outright as hefty favorites– Crazy! I’m gonna turn the page on that debacle and look to land a devastating left hook across the man’s brow tonight with two more positions.
Boston Celtics @ Miami Heat
Game Date/Time: Tuesday, May 3, 7:00 ET
Game Location: American Airlines Center, Miami, FL
TV/Radio Broadcast: TNT, XM
Boston Celtics (+5) -110
Miami Heat (-5) -110
Emotions ran high in Game 1 of this conference semifinals match-up between the Celtics and Heat. A total of 45 fouls were whistled to go along with five technicals; two of which were called on Paul Pierce with the second ejecting the former Kansas Jayhawk with his squad making a run and only down seven points with a little over seven minutes remaining in the game. His departure saw the Celtics go on a mini run, but after it fizzled, Miami salted the NBA playoff betting series opener away from the free throw line to pull out the 99-90 home win and cover.
The Heat are once again 5-point favorites for Game 2, and this time, they’ll be looking to secure the team’s fourth cover of the second season. That said, Miami simply stunk it up for their betting backers at home throughout the regular season (17-25 ATS), and you can bet your bottom dollar that Coach Rivers will have made enough adjustments around the perimeter defensively so as not to allow James Jones to go off from downtown once again.
I’m simply not sold on the Heat and still believe the Celtics win this series. One game does not make a series, and I firmly believe the Celtics knot this series up before taking it back to Beantown. Boston has covered 10 of the L/14 in the recent series, and it’s covered four out of its L/5 when playing off a SU defeat; the C’s are also a perfect 7-0 SU & 6-1 ATS when trailing in a playoff series the last three years. Look for the defending Eastern Conference champs to bring their ‘A’ game Tuesday night and cover the Game 2 NBA playoff betting spread en route to snagging the outright victory.

Memphis Grizzlies @ Oklahoma City Thunder
Game Date/Time: Tuesday, May 3, 9:30 ET
Game Location: Oklahoma City Arena, Oklahoma City, OK
TV/Radio Broadcast: TNT, XM
Memphis Grizzlies (+6.5) -110
Oklahoma City Thunder (-6.5) -110
The Grizz continue to be an ATM as they suffered absolutely no hangover in Game 1 in OKC trouncing the Thunder 114-101 as 6.5-point underdogs. Oklahoma City had numerous opportunities to still win the game even though they were severely outplayed, but turnovers proved to be way too costly as they coughed it up a whopping 18 times to the Grizzlies seven. If you’re searching for reasons why OKC failed to cover Game 1’s NBA playoff betting spread, that’s a great place to start.
Another reason why they were outplayed was because of Russell Westbrook. Yes, he scored 29 points and had eight boards and six assists, but he also turned the ball over seven times with most of them going for quick transition buckets the other way. Westbrook has been very shady in the playoffs going off for big games one night, and then completely stinking it up the next to cost his team the game; look no further than the Game 4 loss in Denver for proof of that statement.
Having said all that, I still think OKC evens this series up in Game 2 and does it in a covering fashion. No letdown/hangover was suffered by the Grizz in Game 1 after making history against the Spurs a day earlier. I don’t think that will be the case tonight, and I wouldn’t be surprised if a shellacking was in the cards. Memphis at worse already earned a split, and when they fall behind tonight, I can honestly see them throwing in the towel much like the Atlanta Hawks did in Game 5 at Orlando last round. The Thunder’s covered seven of the L/8 times they suffered a double-digit loss at home, so look for them to come out looking for payback and serve their backers up a solid NBA playoff betting triumph.
