NBA Power Rankings - Top 10 Teams ATS

Cleveland Loses to L.A. But Maintains a Top Five Spot
The are starting to really play well. Once Andrew Bynum went down, a lot of sports betting fans wrote the Lakers off as a team that wasn’t worth making online bets on.
After all, the Lakers were finding it difficult to cover against the spread with Bynum. Without him, what chance did they have against the best in the NBA?
A pretty good one it turns out. This past week Los Angeles scored two huge victories on the road against the top two teams in the East which catapults them to the top of the NBA Power Rankings.
Let’s get to the rankings!
BetUS NBA Power Rankings
1. Los Angeles Lakers, 27 and 23 against the spread - - Sure, the Lakers don’t have a terrific overall record against the spread, but they beat the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers straight-up and against the spread last week. They also beat Toronto, New York and Memphis. The Lakers have covered in 8 out of their last 10 and 5 in a row. That makes them the top team.
2. San Antonio Spurs, 24-23-2 against the spread - - Like the Lakers, the Spurs haven’t been a very good team overall this season against the spread. But, wow, what a week these guys had! They’ve covered against Boston, Phoenix, New Orleans, Denver and Utah. They’ve covered in 5 out of their last 6 games. They’ve gone 6-3-1 against the spread in their last 10 games.
3. Orlando Magic, 33-16-1 against the spread - - The Magic have gone .500, 2 and 2, in their last 4 games against the spread, but that’s okay. They’re still 6 and 4 against the spread in their last 10 and their 11 point win against the Cavaliers on Jan. 29th makes them one of the top teams in the NBA.
4. Cleveland Cavaliers, 32 and 17 against the spread - - All is not perfect in King James’s court. The Cavs have lost two games in a row against the spread. The straight-up loss to the Lakers on Sunday wasn’t very good either, but Cleveland can still cover spreads more easily than almost any other team in the NBA. I’ll wait to see how they do this week before dropping them out of the top five.
5. Oklahoma City Thunder, 32 and 19 against the spread - - They beat the spread against Denver and Portland but then were favored by 7 against Sacramento and only beat the Kings by 3. What?? The Thunder at -7 in the sportsbook? Yep. I believe the BetUS odds makers are finally onto these guys. They could drop like a rock in these rankings if they have to cover spreads like that with regularity.
6. Boston Celtics, 29 and 24 against the spread - - The Men in Green are 6 and 4 against the spread in their last 10 games, but 1 and 4 against the spread in their last 5 games. They lost to the Lakers and the Spurs straight-up in two out of their last three. I’m not sounding the alarms but it’s obvious that they aren’t the same team from last season.
7. New York Knicks, 29 and 21 against the spread - - Slowly, Mike D’Antoni’s team has started to resemble a tough “out” for the other squads in the NBA. The Knicks had to face the Lakers, Cavs and Celtics in succession last week. They beat the spread against the Cavs, but lost against the spread to the Celtics and Lakers. They lost all three games straight-up. But they bounced back in their most recent game by taking down the Portland Trailblazers. The Knicks are 8 and 2 against the spread in their last 10 games.
8. Denver Nuggets, 28-22-1 against the spread - - The Nuggets looked solid heading into the week but they didn’t perform very well, barely beating Oklahoma City and getting squashed by 44 points against the Nets in New Jersey. Ouch. They still have a decent 6 and 4 record against the spread in their last 10 and they were so good early this season against the spread that I want to keep them in the top 10, but, man, that loss to New Jersey was awful.
9. New Orleans Hornets, 21-25-2 against the spread - - After going 0 and 4 against the spread, the Hornets have bounced back with two solid victories straight-up and against the spread versus the Toronto Raptors and Minnesota Timberwolves. After a game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Feb. 9th, the Hornets face the Boston Celtics on Feb. 11th. That’s going to be a key game. If New Orleans can beat the Celtics straight-up and against the spread, then the turnaround might be on.
10. Utah Jazz, 26 and 26 against the spread - - The Jazz didn’t cover in their last game against the Golden State Warriors, losing 116 to 96, but they did cover in three straight games against Sacramento, Dallas and Charlotte. If Carlos Boozer ever comes back, he’s supposed to within the next two weeks, then this team could easily start to cover spreads with regularity.
