Spurs are on fire
Well, it’s official. The San Antonio Spurs are the best team in the Western Conference. Sure, the Suns delayed the inevitable by avoiding the sweep in game four. However, San Antonio simply has an answer for any type of strategy or style you want to throw at them. Want to play an up-tempo game with razzle dazzle and flash? No problem. They’ll run it with Parker and Ginobili as well. Feel like slowing the contest down and grinding out a half-court offense? That’s fine too. They’ll pound it inside with Tim Duncan. Decided to match your opponent with long range bombs? Simple. They’ll counter with Robert Horry and a couple of other clutch shooters.
You can’t beat the Spurs right now. I really don’t see a weakness. They have the experience, the skill and the defensive schemes to match up against any team. I’m not sure what strategy you can use to defeat them. So far, the Nuggets, Sonics and Suns have not come up with an answer.
Can either the Heat or Pistons be the team to stop them? Logic would say Detroit has a chance, just for the simply fact that they are the defending champs and were underdogs last season while prevailing. I’m not so sure the Heat would have a shot. We saw how San Antonio was able to neutralize Steve Nash, so don’t expect Dwayne Wade to be unstoppable should he reach the finals. Had Shaq been healthy these playoffs, the Heat may have had a chance by taking the game right at Tim Duncan. But, with O’Neal playing at 70 percent max right now, don’t expect him to be a difference maker in the postseason in any game. After all, it’s not like the guy can compensate with a superior outside game or with great foul shooting.
