The Phoenix Suns had a plan when they began their Western Conference Final series with the San Antonio Spurs. They wanted to take the game to the Spurs, using their speed and incredibly fast transitional game. The only problem? The Spurs countered with their own quick game. Much to the surprise of the Suns, San Antonio racked with the points and kept pace with Phoenix the entire night.
The biggest reason for the Spurs’ uncharacteristic offensive outburst in game 1 was the play of Manu Ginobili. The Argentinean used his quickness and unorthodox style to shred the defense and help the Spurs pile up the points. It seemed like every time the Suns made a run, the Spurs countered it. If San Antonio continues to have no problem putting up the points; Phoenix is in deep trouble. If only the Suns could play defense.
Pistons gaining momentum
NBA champs. They marched right into Miami and held the Heat to 81 points. Keep in mind that the Heat were a team who hadn’t lost a playoff game and were on fire. Detroit even managed to make Dwayne Wade look average. The Pistons were lead by the awesome shooting of Rasheed Wallace and the clutch defense of Tayshaun Prince. Game 1 just looked like a composed and experienced team against a free-wheeling and gung-ho squad. The Heat may have had the best record in the East during the regular season, but they have a long way to go in proving they’re the best in the conference.
